As a general point, Myrmidons get no bonus for guns. I actually use arty instead of rails as it uses no cap.

Most of my gun skills are for hybrids

But, ya, projectiles would be better for cap.

What's the best site or mod to use to fit a ship to make sure what you are planning to use doesn't go over the Power Grid or CPU maximums of the ship? Is it EveMon?

Eve Fitting Tool works the best. EveMon is for planning out your skills.

Blockade is a bitch. It has something like 15 battlecruisers. Unless you have a MASSIVE tank with perfect resists, I wouldn't try doing it combat style, I'd just blitz the gate and jump in something small and fast.

I lost 3 cruisers in this mission.

Medium Armor Repairer II
EANM II

I just started working on my gun skills, but taking a small detour to finish out my T2 medium drone skills. Also seriously debating getting an alt that will follow me and salvage in something like a destroyer or something with a lot of capacity and at least 4 turrets.

Here is my setup:

Myrmidon

Highs
Salvager
Salvager
Tractor Beam
Tractor Beam
250mm Prototype Rail Gun
Drone Link Augmentor

Rigs
CCC X 3

Nearly the same setup, but with an extra medium repairer, to tank any L3 mission I have ever faced. Also, one CCC can be cut and replaced with a Nanopump for extra tank, but it makes it so it is only cap stable without the AB running.

EDIT: I use Iridium for ammo, as it has a nice combination of damage and range. I may train for Medium T2 Rails, as it will only take a few days. I already have Medium T2 Blasters, so I just need to train one skill to 4.

Last time I looked it was also around a billion isk for a nightmare while you can get a CNR easily for around 250 mil. Don't get me wrong I'd love to get a nightmare but I'll make do in my CNR in the meantime.

cnr are running about 500-550 mil now, nightmare around 950. Alot depends on what you are putting into the fits too, but unless you are running an officer fit, nightmare is the top dog at the highend.

I had a nightmare i got running sansha level 4's but i dumped it to buy some caps and replacement dreads since i am auto-primary and lose them almost ever time shit goes down

It only took one day of killing two battle ships, two Battle Cruisers, two pods, and a shuttle to go from being able to enter 1.0 space to being an outlaw. I need to spend some time ratting to fix that. The funny thing was that I started the day ratting to gain security, and targets just kepts coming around that were too tempting to pass up.

Oh yeah, I killed and podded a Ferox pilot the day before, which is why I was ratting in the first place. So it took two days of regular play, without ever camping anything.

Oh well, it was just too satisfying when that Abbadon warped to the belt I was ratting in, and targeted me from 50km away. I figured he was sniper fit, so I warped off and warped back at zero, pointed and webbed him and had him half way through armor in my Thorax before any help even came. I should have just gone for him alone, but I didn't know he didn't have a web fitted until after I called for backup. I then podded him for having the audacity to steel my BS rat spawn, and trying to scare me off by targeting me.

Later we found a few Hurricanes about 10 jumps from our home, and we gave them their first ever PvP action. They were both fitted for PvP, and gave a good fight. It is nice to see people get over the fear and try it out, with some more experience they will do better. They convoed us afterward and thanked us for the fight.

On the way back home, we came accross a AAA Megathron. He took my Brutix into half armor, but he went down as well. His fit was curious though, as he had all medium support fitted, and faction EANM's, but only fit Heavy Ion Cannons in his highs when Neutrons would have obviously fit. Whatever, he died too.

Finally, I started ratting again to help with my security status again. In one of the systems, I saw an AFK pod 12km off the gate. He was so far from home, I decided to help him get there sooner. He now has a fresh pod, and is back in his cozy home station instead of out in the middle of cold space. That service set me back again, so I continued to rat.

The next system had an AFK shuttle sitting on the gate. That shuttle didn't have a pass to loiter in our space, so I removed it for him. Again, this did not help my standings.

It always seems that when I rat, I lose more security status than I gain. Maybe this was why I stopped ratting for a while and started doing missions. I don't have that option anymore, and I can't enter the space where I can actually do missions. Oh well, more ratting, and much more self control will need to be in my future.

podding kills vastly more sec status then killing ships.

corpmates spend days in jita ganking haulers without having to come back to get security back.

Uh oh, looks like CVA got disbanded in the same fashion as BoB. Claims of metagaming and account hacking and so forth are going around, so it'll be interesting to see how CCP reacts after investigating. In my time in game I never had anything to do with CVA (I was once in an alliance that was briefly allied with Ushra'Khan, but that was years ago), but wish them the best.

CCP has reinstated them as an alliance. It is a pretty dumb mechanic to allow pushbutton dismissal of an alliance though. I don't think highly of the CVA, but they are usually nice enough to donate high value BS kills to my killboard.

Did some reading on the eve wiki and stuff about skills and attributes, apparently I need to get my perception and willpower skills up too, not just memory and intelligence, since those skills also speed up skill training for non-learning skills.

I personally think that perception is the most important skill as it directly impacts starship command skills.

Martimus, will your sec status go up if you're in a fleet with somebody running missions?

Oh, and I bought a 'Phoon. Can't fly it yet. Broke now, too.

It will, but only is you are within the grid of the person running the mission. (You get credit for all fleet members rat kills, while you are in the same grid.) So i would only be able to do it if I parked my pod next to someone doing missions. That may not be such a horrible idea, now that I think of it. Worst thing that could hapeen is I get podded, and if I use my 0.0 JC it wouldn't matter anyway. I could even grab my 0.0 JC that is in Airaken and autopilot it back. I might do that tomorrow while at work, since if I do get podded it would actually speed the process up.

Nice about the Phoon. Don't know how to fit one for PvE, but I will link you a good PvP fit. This phoon was fast, did a lot of DPS, and had a nice tank. I think he had a slave set though. http://chainofchaos.podzone.net/Killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=18312

I saw that, and I agree that it's a stupid mechanic (though I was immensely pleased when BoB got the same treatment, thanks to their attitude during the whole T20 scandal).

I've never dealt with CVA directly, and I'm not active in game now though I might rejoin after Dominion hits.

Anyone here know much about Factional Warfare? Anyone try it? Do they go into Low Sec very often, and if so how many ships does each side usually bring to the fight and what kinds? Where are the regular fights usually? Is Amarr space pretty heavy with these fights, or is it mostly the other areas that have more FW action?

Total silence. I'll take that as no-one here does factional warfare, or that you easily figured out why I wanted to know about it and decided not to tell me.

I managed to kill my first Falcon yesterday. He was supporting an Abbadon that was trying to bait us to attack him on the high sec gate. The falcon was too busy trying to jam those attacking the abbadon that he didn't notice me burning torward him until I had already pointed him. He went down rather quickly.

Also, earlier in the day I was with a fleet and was pretending to rat in a belt with my Domi. In warped 5 T1 frigates. They all engaged me at point blank range. I reported them, and neuted two pointed one and set my hobgoblin II's on it. It died shortly afterward, so I went to work on the next frigate, (who was already neuted) the rest decided this wasn't a good fight, and warped off as my support came in. So two are dead, and they couldn't even get through my shields. I wonder, what the heck were they thinking? Why would anyone attack a dominix in a Frigate? It has drones, and usually a great tank and neuts. All of which equal a quick death for small ships. If I had more points, I would have gotten them all. http://chainofchaos.podzone.net/Killboard/?a=kill_related&kll_id=20038

Not much to say about FW other than it's "X vs plex." Everything from frigate blobs flown by nearly 0 SP alts to ex 0.0 alliance members shooting fish in a barrel. Unprofitable, pointless, and ultimately of limited long term entertainment. The days of epeen waving over who was winning are long gone. You can find anything from solo people in inties to cap ship blobs. 80% of all combat is going to be in lowsec.

Not everyone realizes drone boats are dangerous to small ships. Besides, frigates are so utterly free why not try it and see if you're AFK or a 3 week old BS pilot?

You are right, they are cheap ships. I was just surprised that they engaged me, as I couldn't see how they could hope to win. I was actually there trying to bait the bigger fish that engaged these guys earlier. (You can see one of them on one of the killmails, Gypsy Nation) but I took the free kills anyway. Even if I was set up in a PvE setup, I would have destroyed them, since they had no chance of breaking my tank and can't handle waves of Hobgoblin II's and Warrior II's. Of course, normally they would be able to warp off against a PvE setup, but I never rat without a point anyway. (Actually, I never rat without a regular PvP setup, works great for Blood Raiders, as I can use the same tactics against them I use against non-missile based player ships.)

Depends who's behind the wheel. If you look at Agony's PvP basic class killboard you can see they regularly take down battleships using 10 absolute newbies in frigates. Not all of those are a gank fit either. I took that class a few years ago, it was a blast. We got a ratting domi among other things.

Check into the Succubus for a 266 DPS frigate fit using t2 modules. Five of that would melt any vanilla battleship. Rifters, Incursuses and Imicuses are not terrible with the "all Vs guy" behind the wheel. I can get 120-odd DPS out of a Velator, even. So if you were a 3 week old guy fielding 4 t1 drones and a t1 tank you'd have been a very, very juicy target for a pack of frigates. That's typically who you find ratting in lowsec belts. Older characters are grinding empire missions in faction fit marauders or are ratting in 0.0.

I used to rat in 0.0 using a slightly modified PvP template megathron (a bit of history: megas were excellent PvP ships before the nano nerf). It was exciting. I'd warp out to a distant roid in the belt then try to pick a roid to warp in right on top of the rats, hoping I'd have enough cap to MWD and finish them before cap ran out. Every so often I'd get a warp in on some fool molesting another ratter which made it all worthwhile. Nothing like landing 4km from a force recon tanked for EM/therm in ye olde blaster mega.

I did FW for a while in my alt. The biggest benefit was having a chance to learn to FC. However, it sort of is PvP for new players with a smattering of older corps that are between things tossed in for good measure.
