Eve set a new record today with over 60K people logged on at once.
If you want to see small game PvP, go to Youtube and search CCP Alliance Tournament.
Michael (find me in game as myrdin potter)
Still playing as well. Finishing up my PI skills on both accounts before 6/8. I'm going to venture a little into low-sec, so hopefully I don't popped.
I don't lose more than 1 ship a month or so
That doesn't sound like much fun.
I don't really mind. I generally fly battle cruisers, so 70M will replace it.
It is more fun to get into fights than avoid them. At least to me. I like fights against other fleets, or good 1v1's. The second is hard to come by, so fleet fights are where the action usually is for me.
I think the last 1v1 I had was my Myrmidon versus a Navy Vexor. I won the fight, but that Navy Vexor lasted a long time, and got through about half my armor.
Oh I was saying 1 loss a month isn't enough. I try to lose at least 4 ships a month, sometimes it's as high as 6. Fly mostly Inties, Cruisers, BCs, BSs so the losses are at most maybe 200m. I try not to lose my Recons/HACs though. I'm all about getting a fight and fly in a fairly gung ho PvP corp. It's been rough recently, though, any time we seem to find a fair fight (ie BC/BS on BC/BS) the enemy corps end up hotdropping multiple caps. Then we have to return hotdrops, etc. etc.. it's alright I guess, but I like the smaller skirmish warfare most of the time.
I prefer the RR BS gang fights over anything, but I like to run BC gangs with logistics support as well. I just haven't had the time to play much lately
Yeah I think my favorite PvP is small 10-15 gang warfare. Maybe 3-4 BS, couple BCs, Inty or two, AF or two, Recon/HAC or two, Logi or two. Then round it out however you feel. Big enough to handle most things with capable pilots, small enough to still be relatively mobile.
Yeah I would love to fly my inty but being low sec the gate guns would insta-pop me.
I'm liking my hammy drake with mwd and tackle fit.
If you venture into low sec without standings, you have an almsot 100% chance of being popped if you do anything but a flyby in a shuttle. Or you can win the PvP and pop them, I guess.

So is there any point to playing this game if you don't have a lot of time, or set times, that you can be on to do stuff with a corp?
Edit - one of the main reasons that I stopped playing WoW was because I couldn't reliably set aside a block of time to raid and do stuff with my guild. A schedule doesn't really work for me. I understand that to really enjoy Eve that you need to join a corp, but I don't really know in advance when I'll be able to play.

well I'm busy as fuck mostly and then I get some time off so its nice you dont need to grind to make your toon better. I spent some time making sure I had some passive income and now I'm good to go. I can jump in and play when I have the time and not worry about not grinding up my stats when not. The perfect mmo for those with demanding jobs.
That's why I love EVE, actually. I'm fairly busy as well and don't really have time to play. In a "good" gaming week I'll play for maybe 4 hours or so. No need to really grind because skills are trained in real time whether you're logged in or not. When it comes to making money, yeah, you may have to bite the bullet and use a few of your gaming hours to pile up some extra ISK, but once you do all you need to do is fly what you can easily afford to lose and you want need to "farm" ISK for quite some time. I don't think I've done any PvE to make money in.. geez, 3 months at least? As far as playing a random schedule.. sure, some corps have set ops at certain times but you should be able to find yourself a PvP corp/FW corp that has enough members where someone will always be online. My corp isn't even that large and we've got members splattered all over the globe so there's always a handful of people on to do things with.
Cool, thanks for the info. I've been waaaay too productive lately, learning python, messing with RHEL virtualization, etc... It's time to get back to some gaming and start wasting my free time again.
I'l lend you 10 million iskies at 20% interest if you like
I agree that Eve is really the perfect game for when you don't have much time to game.
Due to training skills in real time instead of actual grinding, your character is always progressing. You just need to make sure you have your training queue filled up. There are tons of corps out there willing to taking on noobs and don't have mandatory ops and have people on at all times. There really is a corp for everyone in Eve being that everyone plays on 1 server.
The game is still one hell of a learning curve, but the new tutorials help out a lot now and give you a handful of ships and skills, highly worth doing them. To make cash you will have to bit the bullet and spend a bit of time doing so (how you do so is a whole other question as there tons of ways to make isk in Eve), but depending on what you choose to fly for what role you want to fill you can last quite a while with little money using cheap ships with insurance.
The beauty of Eve is it is a true sandbox, you can do whatever you want however you want. All actions have pros and cons to them. The other side of this coin though is, because you are given all freedom, you are overwhelmed for a bit and might not know what you want to do lol.
My advice, if you start playing, train learning skills ASAP, do the tutorials. Find a noob friendly corp that will train you and they should have some kind of ship replacement program for at least small hulls (up to cruisers at least). Oh and always make sure your training queue is full.
One last thing, don't trust people in general. Scams are rampant in Eve and are allowed, reason being you have all the tools available to you to not be scammed. So if you see someone saying I'll give you 3x the isk you send me, what does that little voice inside your head say? Scam/Too good to be true? Then yup it probably is.
