Hi there, first time poster on these forums, consider this my introduction.

I just downloaded the EVE trial with the intention of buying the game, using the trial for a free 14 days. Once I logged into the game, I made a character and was immediately told to train my Learning, Analytical Mind, and a memory skill whose name slips my mind at the moment.

To the point, after reading nearly 17 pages or so from this forum, as an absolute new player I should go out and experience EVE and not fly my poorly fit Condor into lvl 1 mission after mission.

So my proposition for anyone who wants some free eve time, send me a PM and a buddy invite to EVE for the 21 day trial, in which I will upgrade, giving a broke college student 1 more week of EVE until my student loans come in.

Also if you want to help a noob in game, that would be great too.

If you haven't trained HAMs to Tech 2 then I'd use Heavy 2s for now.

Also, it depends on what you're using your ship for. For solo PvP I always use HAMs since I want the higher DPS, and range doesn't matter because I need to get in web/scrambler range anyways. When I go ratting I use heavy missiles so that I don't have to get in knife-fighting range to start popping rats.

Since you mentioned PvP I'd use HAMs once you get them trained up unless you're fighting as part of a gang and other people are doing the tackling. In that case you'll want the range of heavy missiles. For solo PvP HAMs are the way to go.

I found those guys gate camping again, although this time they weren't using shuttles. We had a gang of 10 BC's, 1BS, 1HIC and a Command Ship (no logistics). They were gatecamping with an equal size gang, 1 command ship, 5 BS's, 1 HIC and 6 BC's. They had the slightly better gang, but we decided to fight them anyway (It would have been fun).

They scattered as soon as we entered system, and docked up. They then undocked a carrier, and sat at station for a few minutes (now they had logistics, and would likely have raped us) but still they did nothing.

After a few minutes we got bored and left system, but not before killing a drake that dropped around 45M ISK worth of loot from the gate they were camping.

Nice job.

I'm hoping to get in on some more corp ops next week, unfortunately my last couple of evenings playing EVE were occupied by moving assets around and ratting in order to earn some more ISK. Not particularly fun, but I have to pay for all those Drakes that I lose somehow! A nice thing about the 0.0 space that's closest to where our corp operates is that there are a lot of stations. That means I can constantly fill my hold with loot from destroyed rats, reprocess it, keep the expensive minerals and dump the cheap ones.

should've mentioned. Flying a drake right now, since its an affordable pvp ship and I don't want to waste my nighthawk. I am currently training for t2 ham's.

The nighthawk is a nice ship but you'll make better use of it in gangs rather than solo pvp work. Command ships perform best in groups with the exception of the absolution, astarte and sleipnir however which excel in both gang work and solo pvp.

I am close to being able to fly an Astarte, so I started playing around with EFT to figure out some good fittings. I could set it up to tank 600-700DPS, but the damage was only 500DPS. My Myrmidon has ~500DPS tank and 400+DPS damage, so the setup didn't seem to be worth while. I tried making it a gank ship, but couldn't get it much over 1000DPS, and the tank was pretty bad. I would rather just use my Megathron than doing that.

Do you have some good fits for the Astarte? Do I just need to use faction mods (I am a cheap bastard as you can see from my loss-mails in my signature)? Maybe I should just go for the heavy tank version, as it wasn't really bad, just expensive.

Next thing I want to do is figure out plex running. I have a vague idea of how it works, however I've never bothered to figure out the specifics of doing it. From what I hear it has the potential to be much more profitable than ratting, and now I'm in a corp with members who'd probably be happy to join in.

I have a 40m+ sp i might reactivate, was mostly a carebear now looking for some t1/cheap t2 pvp action. Due to school I need something with easy on/off time commitment. Any corp recommendations (PM me if you don't want it public).

Heh. I'm a seriously cheap bastard too. The only t2 ships I've ever flown outside of highsec have been covops. I don't even pack t2 fittings on roams, I'm just *that* cheap. Doesn't stop me from placing in the top DDs on killmails when flying a gank ship though -- amazing what 50M sp can do even with meta1-2 garbage. Last frig/cruiser roam I was in a failfit thorax (with medium neutrons! and people said it couldn't be done...), and the only guy to regularly dish out more pain was in a t2 pulse apoc. Yeah, my friends fail so much at pvp that they bring BS to cruiser roams. In his defense, tech1 Amarr cruisers blow ass if you don't have god's own drone skills and he only had BC III, so we let him bring the apoc.

back when i was out in 0.0 all i did was fly around a t1 frig or cruiser most of the time....unless I was ratting...then i'd use a Drake. but seriously...t1 is really fun to fly because if you die, you can mine out the minerals for a new ship in 30 mins...or just buy a new one.

I read the first half of that statement and thought, "Hey wait a minute, I love my Arbitrator!" then read the second half and thought "Well, yeah, that is true."

all those expensive ships just need to stay out of gang fights. I saw like 4 billion isk blow up in one fight. CCP must of been pleased. 2.3 billion of that was one ship! They just becoming a lightning rod for damage and if you do decide to fly them they should be tanked only as you will die.

I have a friend who plays high sec and he just doesn't get it when he talks to me about all this named high end stuff. He thinks people should be flying that stuff to get an edge.

Depends on how you like to fly your ships & how you find targets. If you're good at finding targets that you can melt quickly then I'd go with the gank version that you came up with. If you can put out around 1000 dps most folks typically don't worry about tank that much. If you plan on flying with a gang then fit a tank to it as you will likely become a primary target for any other gang that you happen to engage.

I think I'm going to take about a week off from EVE. I overdid it a little bit during the past week when the weather was too miserably hot to go outside, so I've decided it's time for more physical activity and sunlight and less EVE Online. I moved my character over to her high-value implant jump clone, and when I come back next week I should have another level of Rapid Launch and Acceleration Control trained.

Balance my friend... I hit the gym 3x per week no matter what.
