I wonder if we will get 3 nights in a row where someone finds a plex, we probe them out and then kill them in the plex and then run it ....

Ah, it's fun if you get a few recons and just wait inside a plex in hostile territory. RAPE TIME as soon as they come in.

I've looked at EVE several times over the past few years but never broke away from my WoW addiction long enough to give it a fair shot. Now that I'm completely over WoW I'm going to try the EVE trial. Can anyone give me some racial advice?

I understand they are the same, but the ships seem to build off prior racial skills and there are factions. If you are just starting out and plan on staying with one race's ships for awhile and want to focus on PVP, is one better than another?

<edit> whoohoo, 5th post in 8 years, I'm moving up in the world!

Played EVE since Beta 5 (last Beta before release) it was fun but it wore out on the novelty

Gallente is my favorite race, and they do well in PvP.
They Armor tank, and mostly use very short range but high DPS blasters, although they also can use long range rails (but doing so, usually comes at the expense of your tank, as it is difficult to fit both rails and a heavy tank.)

Caldari is generally considered the best mission running race though. They are generally poor at PvP with a few exceptions.
They Shield Tank, and use Missiles. They also can use blasters and railguns on some of their ships. (Technically all ships can fit any kind of gun that will fit, but ships have bonuses to certain guns, so you usually see the guns they have bonuses to fitted.)

Ammar also has good PvP ships.
They Armor Tank like Gallente, and use Lasers. These ships tear through Caldari ships like butter, since the shields have no inherent resistance to EM (laser damage type)

Minmatar is the bastard stepchild of EVE. Killed a bunch of them, but never flown one of their ships.
These ships are all over the place in whether they shield or armor tank. They are generally all faster than all other races ships however. Minmatar use autocannons for short range and artillery for long range. These weapons are nice in that they use no capacitor.

That would be fun. I enjoy running those plexes. It is a mix of PvP and teamwork finidhing the plex. Now I just need to learn to probe, so I can start probing out plexers.

I was thinking about leveling up to Caldari BS for the Raven. But decided to just concentrate on Gallente and use the domi for lvl 4 missions. If after I build up the support skills and feel like it. Ill train for a raven to run missions.

The domi is a great level 4 mission ship with the added bonus of you being able to afk mission run as well as your drones do all the work.

I was thinking of using a tractor beam + salvagers while drones kill

I use a dedicated salvage ship for that except in 0.0.

ps - if there is anyone looking for a corp to PvP in (or to learn PvP), my corp is still accepting memebrs. I think the AT guys that have tried my corp have liked it so far.

Also salvaging is great. Don't run for CN if you want a better LP to isk ratio. Missions are proven better than 0.0, the only good thing about 0.0 is officers and faction rats. Also, remember your social skills that boost mission LP and reward. It matters. People make tons of isk running missions, just gotta do it right. And that does mean paying attention.

As someone who has done both missions and now lives in 0.0, your statement isn't exactly true. If your ratting in Great Wildlands or Syndicate or Geminate, your not going to make much per hour because the system sec status is low. Now if you can rat in Venal, then you can make a lot of isk due to broke NPC pirate tru-sec.

Plexing though is even more profitable. I made 15b+ on plexes in Venal and this was doing mostly 6/10 or 8/10s.

And how hot is venal? what if people come in? It takes away too much time. So much more volatile.

Plexes ARE where it's at though. It's what I do. Comparing only missions and 0.0 ratting, I've got to say that missions are way better.

For Venal, it depends on two things. First do you have standings with the north (Razor/MM/TCD + minors). Second, where are you going to be plexing. I did most of my plexing within 5 jumps of PF-QHK. Additionally, I'm late PST player when most of the local hostiles are not awake.

If people came into local, I did one of a few things. If I was in the 2nd or 3rd room of a plex, then I pulled my drones in and just watched for probes. If they were scanning for me, then I just warped to a safe and cloaked up (nothing in plexes warp scrams). Most roaming gangs are looking for ratters. If they have a prober then its going to take them a minute or two minimum to scan you down in the plex. Even if they scan you down, when they warp to you they end up at the entrance so it takes time to actually get to you.

Mission wise, its actually possible to do missions for NPC factions while also doing plexes IF you run two accounts. Faction hits for killing NPC BSs is very minimal (about .01% iirc). Its killing structures that kills your faction (killing a missle tower is a 3.0% hit ot faction). Just make sure the mission character only kills ships.

lol, standings yeah... Well that does make it easier.

Ok, so I'm kicking along doing the starter missions and have a couple of questions.

Cloning - how often do I need to update this? All the guides say to keep updating it, but is that like after a skill is learned, when you near the SP capacity of your clone, when you die? what? Does the clone automatically update the skills you have learned?

If for some reason I started opening someone else's loot or can or whatever its called, I understand they are allowed to initiate combat with me and I can try to kill them, and the timer lasts 15 min, but will that cause station/gate guns to fire on me as well? How big a deal is your sec status?

1) Clones - each class of clone protects you up to a certain amount of skill points. You need to replace your clone when you get podded or if your current SP exceeds your clones capacity

2) If you steal an item (not just open, you need to take), you get flagged as a valid target to the can's owner but you do not get gate or station gun aggro from that.

Anyone know what Apocrypha 1.5 is going to bring? I heard it will add some new Epic Arcs, but other than that, I don't know. Maybe we will get some more T3 ships? That would be cool, although I don't have the ISK or Skills to fly one.

Best I can find

http://www.curse.com/blogs/eve...-coming-in-august.aspx

New epic arcs have been added for each of the factions, offering challenging level four encounters and exciting new storylines.

Factional Warfare gets some upgrades! The variety of awards has been increased, including new unique rewards for PVP kills. Missing faction variants for several modules were added, as well. Be sure to check the LP store once 1.5 arrives!

Fuel Bays have been created, allowing you to expand the storage capacity on your black ops ships.

Multi-sized rigs are now available due to new advances in rig development technology. Small, medium and large versions offer a wide range of affordable and effective rigging solutions.

Thanks. Now that the site is back up I found these links as well: Changes to Rigs, and updates in patch 1.5.

Looks like Carriers will have less cargo space now. Hopefully this doesn't affect it so much we can't transport rigged ships anymore.

Carriers have different "cargo bays". The ship mainteance hanger, which is used to move assembled ships, did not change. Actually, they recently made the megathron be below 500K which means you can finally move 2 of them if you need to.

I never wanted a carrier due to it having a lack of storage for my menagerie of freeze dried exotic dancers.

Taking a break from WOW and giving this a try. I have a question - how do you split qty in EVE? For example, I brought 10000 rockets. If I put the whole lot into my cargo bag - then it will take up most my cargo space.
