Here's another question for the crowd. Does anybody use regular assault ships for anything? HACs seem to be popular with those who can afford to use them for PvP, but it's very rare to see an assault frigate, especially a Caldari one.

I use an Ishkur when I want to kill a flashy frigate. It is the anti-frigate frigate.

I see lots of Wolfs flying around, so those probably are good ships to fly.

EDIT: Speaking of caldari Assalt Ships, Here is a Harpy fit: http://nawti.evekb.co.uk/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1714715
and here is a Hawk: http://nawti.evekb.co.uk/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1702173

Can't say how effective they were, as they both got caught and died.

We have some people who fly wolves... They are a pretty decent tackler and usually can last long enough for the dps to arrive for the kill. That said, we use a lot more recons that just about anything else for PvP, but that is also because we live in wormhole space (thus no local to give-away that you are there). The combination of a rupture or two, and a few curses or pilgrims makes for a real nasty fight for someone running wormhole sites.

Anyone else hate Leadership training? I've always thought it should be reserved for alts, but for some reason, I decided to start training on the char I now use as my main and now I can't stop. It's one of those areas that unless you max it, you might as well not have it, and now I'm 5m SP in and am so bored of it. I'm a pad sanda.

I have hooked Martimus on drugs. Started him on synth boosters, but not long until he is using the real thing.

Recently I have been ganking hulks in the high sec system right next to us. Fun and easy to do in a gank fit thorax.

Something so satisfying about ganking hulks in t1 throw away cruisers eh? Maybe it's just a deep loathing for macro miners, I don't know. It's wonderful to be able to do it on alts with little to no training whose sec status I could not care any less about.

Yeah, high leadership skills are really worth while, especially as an FC since you can throw yourself into Fleet Commander role, have full control over fleet warps, and you are likely to be the last to be primaried in a Damnation due to the great tank and crap DPS.

Thanks for reinforcing my desire to not come back and play eve... at all. It's amazing that a game that thrives on misery has any subscribers at all.

It's a high risk and high reward system. There are some mechanics i strongly disagree with such as suicide ganking in 1.0 systems and their lack of attention to high sec content, but the game thrives on the meteoric rise and fall of players and corporations alike.

As someone who has ragequit the game more than once, i'm very happy to be playing again.

Having fun is really all about having a good corp behind you.

It was a few hundred thousand subscribers. It is a fun game, and when I get ganked, I just shrug it off as I wasn't paying good enough attention.

The hulks are only worth about 200M each, so it isn't that big a loss (although one was T2 rigged and was worth 300M+). And they will adjust eventually and move to a new system to mine. If not, they will continue to die.

It is really the part of the game that I enjoy most. I love the hunt. I find a target that is mission running, plexing, mining, or even hunting himself. Then I narrow him down and get my counter ready, then go in for the kill and catch him before he knows I am trying to kill him. That is the part I enjoy the most, getting the target before he has a chance to get away. And I definitely hunt the hunters as well as those who would rather be left alone.

Exactly - it's bad enough I have to fight with ISK farmers to make my living of choice (care-free AFK mining of veldspar), working hard to get as well as fit my hulk, living in 1.0 systems by choice, dealing with the low-risk low-reward type of play, and yet still people go out of their way to find a way to make life miserable for people. I do not pay real world money to get blown up.

If you love to hunt so much, go hunt people that will shoot back at you. All you are is a griefer, and as such people like you should be paying the subscriptions of people like me if you enjoy that sort of thing so much.

I do.

Like I said, I also hunt the hunters. I prefer those fights actually, but there is something satisfying about blowing up bot miners.

For example, just last night a group of 7 battle cruisers decided to come to our system and try to gank someone ratting, or gate camping. So I tried to get together 4 RR BSes in response as fast as I could. I got the 4 I needed, so I warped to the gate they were camping the other side of with one other RR BS as bait. They had one drake on the other side to see us there, but he was 250km off the gate. At that point I just waited for them to jump and take the bait.

They took about 5 minutes, but eventually they got tired of waiting for us to jump and they jumped to us. By that time, we had 6 BSes and one BC ready to engage them. I had the reast of the fleet warp in, and we killed two of the BCs, while the other 5 burned out of range. It would have been nice to get all 7 of them, but it was still fun to get the two we got.

http://nawti.evekb.co.uk/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1747924
http://nawti.evekb.co.uk/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1747925

And this is the norm to be honest. Ganking high-sec hulks is more just the flavor of the month, in that it is something new. It will get borign soon, but killing those that expect to kill me, now that is always fun

(Another thing I get enjoyment out of is probing out ships that logged off with aggression, after running around playing cat and mouse with me. This way I not only win the game of cat and mouse, I also get there pod. I always keep a prober nearby, and they always get probed out and killed and podded.)

It's serving to that niche that allows it to survive at all. If it was just WoW in space it'd have died years ago. Going off on an aside, I like WoW and Eve, and it's kind of funny the pure hate most Eve players have against WoW.

I don't hate WoW, I just don't like it. I don't have anything against people who enjoy playing WoW. I just found it mind numbingly boring when I tried to play it.

Thing is it caters to only one niche (gankers), while putting up face for another (people like me) only to lure them in simply to cater to its niche. EVE is a game that I want to play, badly. There's no other games out there in the genre. But unfortunately they do their absolute best to dissuade me from playing because of shit like this.

Shit like what? That someone can blow up your ship? That doesn't mean they will, they just can. Just like someone can mug you downtown. That doesn't mean they will, but they can. There is police around to try to stop this, and you can carry a weapon to try to stop it yourself. Eve is the same way. You can stop someone from ganking you by fitting a tank on your hulk. You lose some cargo capacity, but CONCORD (the police) will come and save you. Or, you could have a friend escort you with a combat ship to disuade any suicide gankers (although you will still need to fit some tank, so you can survive long enough for your friend to finish off the enemy)

Plus, it is much more difficult to gank someone in 1.0 space as you say you mine in than it is in 0.5 space where we are ganking hulks. Concord arrives literally 5 times faster in 1.0 space.

You don't like that the game is as open ended as it is. It allows for people to do things that aren't allowed in other games. It isn't centered around griefing, but it isn't explicitly forbidden. It isn't even that common, but yet the fear of it is what keeps you away. Don't let fear of something you don't understand debilitate you like that. Either look into it, and find out what you can do to counter it, or just let it go. It really isn't anywhere near the problem you are making it out to be.

I understand it just fine. I don't put time, energy and money into a game just to have some asshole take all my progress away from me. Yes, it's the fear of that that keeps me away from EVE, because I'm not willing to spend my cash on someone else's entertainment. Not even worth the risk.

I love EVE (mostly because it's a space game) but even I can admit that it's focused on ganking and griefing other players. I can completely understand people not liking that in a game that requires a monthly sub.

My hat is off to you sir, I refuse to train Wing beyond IV, so now Fleet Command for me (on my main). My unprobe-able loki has it, so I can throw him in fleet and safe him up if I want, but I just can't bring myself to do Wing V on another char.

If you just want to mine away/work on industry, then join up with an alliance that has support corps to do the defense for you. You can PvE away, and feed the alliance a bit of your profits, and in turn you get a bunch of PvPers to watch your back. Easy.

Yeah, if you are wanting to mine to earn isk you need to join a corp that does that thing. You get tons of benefits to do so. You get access to better ores, protection, haulers, and orca/rorqual which will increase your yields significantly.

To really make mining worth your while you really need to have an orca boosting you at least.

You just want to afk mine in highsec to make some isk, while the game does provide protection so that you can do this, the protection only goes so far. Nothing in Eve is meant to be 100% safe. If highsec miners didn't need to worry about potential ganks and could afk mine all day, pretty much everyone would probably have an alt just for that since it would require 0 effort or risk.
