La_Man-

Just went to BB in NYC (23rd St and 6th Ave) and they had 3 in stock (now 2) @$199.99. Salesperson was pretty clueless, but when I asked him to look in the cabinet under the AT&T kiosk there were three sitting there. When I paid for it 3 rebates came out:

$125 (#29131) - "new" activation required
$50 (#28638) - activation required
$? (#28694) - "new" activation required

Plus you can get the $50 rebate card at an AT&T store (activation required). Not sure why the fourth BB rebate didn't come out.

As a current AT&T customer (TDMA) who is switching over to GSM, I don't think I am eligible for the "new" activation rebates, although I shouldn't have any problem getting the two $50 rebates. Of course I will try for the others as well, I'm just not counting on getting them.

Just got back from a Philadelphia Best Buy (Plymouth Meeting) and got the phone. Comes with a 125 rebate, a 50 rebate, and a mystery rebate, which upon calling the number on the form, was told it was for another 50 bucks. So all in all, after PA tax, I made out $13 for the phone. Not sure about the ATT card that was mentioned in the post above, I'll have to take a look. The nighttime minutes are $5 a month for 500 and $10 for 1000. All in all, I'm not sure how this deal stacks up considering the limited calling area at this time. I'll give it a try for a day or so and see if I keep the phone. While driving around the highway, I heard an annoying star trek futuristic beeping sound ever few seconds that had no pattern (and it kept changing frequency). The caller said they could faintly hear it, but only after I pointed it out. I do like the 1000 minutes though. Oh, they also have an unlimited minutes plan for 99 a month! I wonder how long till they all come to that (though I am sure this is just to get people to try gsm).

SJ BB was sold out, but the CSR told me they'd have more in stock Thursday. Does anybody know if these phones are locked to the sim chip? I want to be able to travel to UK/China/wherever and be able to get a local number and chip and use the same phone. Also, with this phone would I be able to go from ATT to another carrier, like Cingular? TIA

That's very odd. Because I got the $275 from Oxford Valley, PA. The only weirdness i have experienced with this GSM service so far is that in some areas, a phone call gets through, and I can here the recipiant perfectly clear but all they hear is dead silence. Very odd.

I hope you've recorded the conversation, because their policy is you can cancel in 15 days.

Just got the phone from BB in Pinole, (they only had two left) w/ $225 in rebates and some unknown rebate that I'm going to call in later 2day. Yea, the SIM card is locked, but BB cellphone guy told me that if you ask your service provider they are required by law to tell you the unlock code (???) but they'll do anything in their power not to tell you (I don't know if the required by law part is true, but if it is, then coolz!)...

On a side note, (if anyone can help me answer this) You know how you it's BEST to charge your phone overnight the first time you get it (instructions say 4hrs, and BBcellphone guy said overnight)? What happens to the phone if the FIRST TIME you charged it for 30min and accidentally tripped on the charger and then said "AWW CR@P!" and then recharged it again...

(cuz from what I noticed now, I only get 2days standby time, as opposed to the 5days it's actually supposed to standby for, and the power drains after a full charge REALLY REALLY fast)Grrr.. maybe I'll return it and get another

btw! To find out cool stuff you can do to your phone go here and check it out...
It's pretty cool, I actually sync-ed by Laptop and my phone together via IR and sent picture to it!

Now I just gotta figure out how to save my ringtones and phonelists

Just do a phone list in Outlook, then use the XTNDConnectPC software from http://wap.sonyericsson.com/ to sync both the Calendar & Phone List in one easy step.

I called the Philly store and they said they ONLY have a $50 mail in rebate, that's it. He said they don't even have the $125 rebate on activation on this phone either, only on some other ATT phones....wierd.

Yeah, they don't advertise it, they just show the 50 rebate in the store. In the circular they show the 125 and the 50. In the store when you get rung up though, all three come up. Though after using the phone for 2 days, I think I may return it. There phone is just too way slow to respond to the buttons being pressed (like running office xp on a 486) and the faint background noise drives me crazy. This will be a cool type of phone in another generation.

Get one sony rebate (from register) for $50
There was also a Sony paper display rebate on the T68i and it has a different po box from register rebate, for another $50....
Mailed them all this morning, so should get::

$325 in rebates !!!!! and actually make $125 !!!!

Best buy McKnight Road Pittsburgh PA... in stock as of 6pm last night....

BTW was worried about coverage but it's better than my voicestream GSM was !!!

ONLY ONE YEAR CONTRACT NEEDED FOR ALL REBATES, in store activation required...
Can add an additional 500 night/weekend min for $4.99.

Got the 7.99 n-mode plan which works great so far as I can see....

Great deal, thanks !!!

Just came back from BB, couldn't pass up this deal. 4 rebates popped out, a 50, 50, 125 and an unmarked. I also got the 50$ rebate form as steel has stated. If that one goes through it'll be a VERY sweet deal to say the least.

This is a great deal. BUT, I think this is a GSM-only and you won't be able to roam in a lot of areas right now. Check View Coverage at that link to see where the GSM coverage is.

That's a good deal for a great phone .. and the GSM network will only grow and grow... with superior service and sound quality ...
derby
Is this a single band phone? If so, I really wont' be able to roam anywhere since nobody else has GSM service.
the only problem with this phone is that, it only works on the GSM network (will work wherever ATT or T-Mobile GSM service is available, they have an agreement together), if you get the Siemens S46 for $99 it will work on both GSM/GPRS/TDMA Network, so you wont be left stranded when you leave the big metropolitan areas. If you live in SD .. -this is where the GSM network started- you will get the best service possible ...especialy if you don't move out of your home town... then get on this deal .. you sure can't beat a great phone like that for free !!
