It is worth, no doubt. I got one with clean $20 of $100 and only $127 and few pennies before the $40 rebate. So $87 without any combinations and with relatively safe Staples rebate. Find me a better deal anywhere!

These $69.94 is fake though because you cannot get it no matter what you combined unless you pretend you didn't pay those other things and tax. One great combination is with Netgear stuff but you need to shell $190 in advance for the deal and hope nothing goes wrong with multiple coupons.

Did they charge anyone tax. They charged me tax 10.80 I live in Louisiana and as far as I know they do not do business here. Also it did not show up the tax when I made the order just on the email they sent.

I was reading the fine print and they said they do business in all states except Alaska and Hawaii.

I've hard problems with staples site too. I couldn't even view the drive, I think they are trying to thrawt online purchases of the drive fearing too many coupon based purchases.

Maxam's link above worked great for me though, I think it kept me logged out, then I added it to cart, logged in, and it was in my cart.

Thanks maxam, as finding the product manually w/o a link wasn't getting me anywhere.

You are welcome

Total Merch: $151.82
Delivery Fee: $0.00
Coupon 79804: -$30.00 Staples Coupon
Total Tax: $10.66

Order Total: $132.48

I bought the drive and some CD-R's. Personally, I wouldn't consider the drive to have cost $69.94 AR, but rather $92.48 AR.

Newegg has the Quiet model for $100, and the non-quiet for $110 (go figure that the less desireable one costs more). I'd really like to know whether the staples drive has the fluid-bearings or not, the only noise from my computer right now is the Maxtor 30GB DiamondMax, which started out quiet and got nosier with age, something I suspect any Maxtor not specifically marketed as being Quiet will also suffer from..

woohoo, i wasn't lazy for once, went to the store to get it, and it payed off.

staples near rosemead and foothill in pasadena, they had 2...
1 had ata133 card in box!

140 - 20 coupon + ~9 in tax - 40 mail in rebate = ~89

didn't open it yet, so not sure if it's ball bearing or liquid.
on the outside of the box there's a "P6L6L4" but the kit code is L01J080G
lol. anyone know? or do i have to open it to find out?

Wow! A controller card in the box, that is no joke. If you get one you need to know this is $20-30 value by itself.
You are the first one reporting that, I heard others got it without controller card.

Sanity and insanity. Hearing and deafness. I replaced two ball bearing drives with two liquid and the sound is noticeable.

yeah, i was really lucky. just hope it's a liquid bearing drive now.

the staples i went to doesn't get as much business as other staples in the area. they had 2 drives, the one in front didn't have a controller card. i had the staples guy give me the drive and low and behold the drive behind it had the lovely unexpected FREE INSIDE sticker. lol.

I just opened the rebate PDF I downloaded and noticed that it's for Model # L01J080G (SKU 471535) - if I'm not mistaken, that's for the ball-bearing (not fluid/quiet) model.

Who knows, though, since it seems like Maxtor is rather liberal as far as what is actually in the box when you open it.

Ok, i have to disagree w/ this statement. I have not heard either, but you make is sound like night and day. I've read some posts that it barely makes any, if at all, any difference. I have a d540x and a 60GXP.. both 40GB.. i barely every hear them reading. Most ppl will have fans louder than the HD.

Hmm.... I noticed a difference first thing on a new Maxtor 40GB drive about a year ago, but I don't know what I have yet, fluid or what, its a 4610H6. (can someone tell me what that is, per Win2K, maxtor support doesn't?)

Anyway, it was soo quite I thought it wasn't working. This is compared to a 20GB Seagate and 20GB Maxtor that used to occupy the space. I thought somehow, something was buffered somewhere in some wacky way. I doubted that it was really working. Maybe we had been stuck with loud drives in the past.

I am trying to decide if it would be worth it to get one of these or wait and get a 160 GB drive. I know I can use the room, as I have a 60 GB drive almost filled up now. If I got the 80GB I am thinking I can make a volume from the two and have the space I need for now, or wait and get a 160 GB drive and have more than enough. decisions, decisions.....

Staples lists ther manufacturer model as L01J080G

The "L" denotes fluid dynamic bearing motors according to Maxtor...

If you haven't heard them, then why are you crapping on my post? I had two (2), 7200rpm ball bearing maxtors. I could hear the computer out in the hall of my townhouse. I replaced the two hard drives and now I only hear the heatsink fan. I have Panaflo L1A's for case fans with the new Antec TruPower power supply. THE NUMBER ONE DIFFERENCE I DID TO QUIETEN THE NOISE WAS TO REPLACE THE HARD DRIVES WITH THE FLUID BEARING MODELS! Now if I could only get the voices in my head to be quiet. Maybe I'll install a heatsink fan in my inner ear to drown them out.

Just went to my local Staples and picked up one.
139.94 - 20.00 (coupon) + tax = 128.34.
128.34 - 40.00 rebate = 88.34

Not exactly $69.94 but it ain't too bad.

Thanks for posting this deal Kenji4861. And a special thanks to dc.

I asked the guy at the counter if I could take a look at it and as soon as he pulled it out (that didn't sound good) I saw that the one behind it had a "Free Inside" sticker. I told him I'd rather have that one.
Now I'm just trying to figure out why I needed a new hard drive. Thanks for all the help.
