I bought the same drive a little over a month ago, and that one has a ATA133 card. The new one I picked up from store today does NOT have a card, but they are otherwise idedntical (same model/UPC/spec). Although you should be able to tell whether it's a ball bearing or fluid mechanism drive from outside of the box (6L080J4 vs. 6L080L4), but the last one I bought turned out to be a ball bearing drive even though the outsided box indicates it's fluid. The new one I got today also says fluid, but I have yet confirmed it (still debating whether to keep it).
I see the same on my box. I opened it and it has a model # (part #) of MX6L080L4. If you go to maxtor's site and look up D740X in the product finder it statesWhere in the boxs you find this 6L080J4? I only see L01J080G in my box, comes with the card but i think is not the fluid one.
*Note"L" denotes Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motors
** The letter "J" contained in the model number denotes that this drive was manufactured in Japan with Ball Bearing Motor.

you can get 2 (rebates..) only by having one "bought" by cash by a "friend" at another postal address. on the paying part after rebate(s) depends on your deal structuring ability.. istvan why are you wanting to give up an ATA100/66 80GB 7200rpm hard drive just for the the liquid bearing model and the performance is not really as all what it is cracked up to be( read here, here, quick Mac chart and the Promise ATA133 card ) and the PCI ATA133 card can easily be sold for $20 to $30 over in FS/FT forums here at AT or locally...lowering your cost on an 80GB 7200rpm harddrive to as low as $50 ....if it had not been for finances I would have bought the ATA133 carded 80GB 7.2k drive from the previous Staples deal as it is I got mine (still unopened "new style" packaging) last Fri and restructured on Sunday. Its up to you.Originally posted by: P1553D
