mines a l01j080g, but it has the j6l4 code... I wonder how many if any are left at the B&M's to exchange with? I want a fluid motor since I have ata133 on the mobo I dont care about the card . plus every little reduction in noise is a plus

really nice. last night when checking the Staples website, the Maxtor drive was listed, but it was showing as "out of stock". Now this morning when I check Staples website, that drive isn't even listed at all! whether i search by item number (471535), or just do a search on 'maxtor', the 80GB 7200RPM drive is no longer there.
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR STAPLES...

Wow. Anyone else experience this?I got in on the staples deal, and got a ball bearing drive, and also purchased a fluid bearing drive from newegg.
just my experience, these things are FAR from quiet. The liquid drive was actually louder than the ball bearing drive. You can hear the drives spin up and spin down like a damn scsi cheetah. And the piercing noise...
I have 5 7200 drives listed in order of quiet to loud:
(2) seagate barracuda 80gb
(1) ibm 60gxp 60gb
(1) maxtor ball bearing 80gb
(1) maxtor fluid bearing 80gb
the maxtor fluid bearing is the loudest drive to date ... very dissapointing. Ear piercing "Whiiiiiiiiiine"

Why would an 80GB external Firewire drive be a hotter deal? Isn't Firewire slower than ATA133?

its back in stock in my area (Columbia, MO) so I ordered it along with the pacific digital 32x burner so my total was 229-50=179 minus the rebate of 40 for each drive = 100+tax

They were back in stock again today at my Staples in JAX. They only had 3 left on the shelf. A guy walking around with 20 dollar off codes written on a pc of notebook paper asked me where to find it when he saw me carrying on of em around! Maybe 1 left if you hurry... also, I saw there were 2 of the 80 gig Firewire drives on clearance left in stock, till ScrapSilicon walked out with one of them! So..maybe one of those left as well...Happy Hunting!! (AT ABOUT 5:00PM)
