The Hitachi deals are hard to consider hot because of the massive rebates, too much money up front for my tastes. I usually go for the $129 Maxtor instead, but this deal is obviously significantly better if the rebate comes through.

The deal is OK, but I like last weeks deal of 160gig Maxtor @ $69 w/o rebates better.

I've gotten in on two separate 200GB Hitachi Fry's deals over the past few months and the rebates have come relatively quickly (3-4 weeks or so). Of course it's always a YMMV with MIRs but on the Fry's Hitachi ones I'm 2 for 2 so far.

Hitachi may have bought the IBM hd division, but from the benchies i've seen, these Hitachi's are kicking butt in performance, just like the IBM's did. Hopefully they're exercising higher quality control.

Heh, I got in on the 160GB Maxtors without rebates deal. PMed Fry's to Staples so I can use coupons and my Amex Rewards.

Got two of 'em for around $70 (after $50 GC and Staples coupons). Now I'm running a RAID 0 array of 2 Maxtor 160s. Did a couple of benchmarks and found the transfer speed to be almost 3X as fast as my old Maxtor 120GB drive and a little less than twice as fast as an Ultra320 SCSI 15Krpm drive! Wow! I didn't even expect this much of an increase. Gotta get more fans to cool the HD rig. They run HOT!

They may have bought out IBM, but even IBM had moved beyond those models that had problems. The current Hitachi models do not have these problems.

Be careful if you have already done one of these dials on a Hitachit 250 this year. The $20 rebate is the same promotion and won't be honored again.
