It shows you how up-to-date the system is, which is important for those of us who live in areas where streets, neighborhoods and, in one case, cities, are popping up often.

For example, my car's GPS DVD was out of date until recently, and, thus, I was unable to navigate an entire near-by city because it was newer than my DVD.

Really? Pictures from satellites that they contract out to third parties because people like pretty pictures gives an accurate representation of how well their mapping software, direction algorithms, and street maps are updated?

Intredasting.

That is correct.

Funny. The only company that hates Android/Google more than Apple is Microsoft. OK, may not quite as much, but close.

Have you ever heard Bill Gates ranting and raving about how he wants to destroy Android?
How many lawsuits has MS filed against Google about Android?

Does it necessarily mean that the maps are the same age as the bird's eye imagery?

And it doesn't at all actually... Just checked out my old neighbourhood and the aerial view is much more recent than the bird's eye view. There's no streetlevel view either.

I like it. Google maps have been pretty crappy for me lately. You put in a simple ST. and AVE. intersection and it points you somewhere a few blocks off or it can't find the place and sends bogus results from another city.

Google has the right aerial view of my home. Also, I can't get Bing Maps to open in Firefox either. And I turned off AdBlock and signed into MSN Live. Still won't load (computer also has Silverlight installed for the few times it is needed) .. Just checked it in Opera, it opens fine. Home view is correct, cars in driveway is not correct in Bing (map from 2010) but is correct in Google (didn't check map date in Google)

There are lots of differences in the map ages. The aerial view is different from the Bird's Eye view, but keep in mind that you can also "spin" the map in Bird's Eye view to get different views. When I did this, each view appeared to be a different age but all of the views were several years old. For example, at least 1 of the 4 views (and probably another; couldn't tell for sure) showed several trees in our yard that were long gone by the time we bought the house in 2008. All views had trees in the yard which were cut down in early 2010 but I do know that at least one of the views was from after the time we bought the house in 2008, because I could see some of our stuff (a hammock, for example).

At this stage, Google's aerial view is also a few years old for my house, but a funny thing happened a couple of years ago. In April 2010, we had several trees cut down in our back yard by the utility. Within a month, that was reflected on the Google Maps aerial view. That's the last update, however, as it still doesn't show changes we made over the last couple of years to the yard.

I don't like that my mouse cursor disappears on the map. That was really frustrating, sorry MS.

I like that you can now use multiple locations. I was doing some craigslist shopping and was in a pinch for time. I plugged in 3 addresses and emailed it to my phone. One click on the link and Google was navigating me around like a champ. Easily saved me an hour off my journey.

The people that judge Bing or Google based on the pic of their house are a bit lost. Who cares? The pics are cool but don't serve any real purpose other than making people feel like astronauts.

Sorry, not using anything from MS, especially Bing.

I boot into Win 7 to game when needed, monopolies are great huh?

Their maps don't seem too bad but there sat pics are way out dated as has been said...Google has pics of my house that was just built 6 months ago, Bing doesn't even show the roads within a quarter mile:\

not at all

I just use online maps a lot. I mean an average of 15 times a day. I'm doing that while talking to a customer on the phone so bad results means that I get slowed down or side tracked or even worse, I set up service for a customer at a wrong location. Its happened enough that I know I have to double check Bing's results with a third party.

The more people use Google Maps, the better it will get. It has some flaws. Satellite view isn't always 100% up to date and the can take forever to update when street names change. My whole point in this thread is that everyone is going to Bing, typing in their home address and looking at the pretty pictures. That is not useful to anyone. I'm giving real world, first hand, power user feedback.
