Hey, I could live with being fired. That would just mean I'd found the limits. :Q

I've been in situations where I had lots of latitude in decision making and execution, but had to be reeled back in a time or two, and thumped for going just a little too far.

Yup, I was just laid off by Intel. I am sure everyone heard about the Intel layoffs. This way managers get to keep their overpaid jobs while the people who actually make the company money, get let go. Do I sound bitter? hehe. Intel has some serious problems. Good engineers are leaving for the smaller companies.

used to work for Keytronic making Nintendo games
had a meeting one day and all of us were let go
funny- I was so fed up at the time that I was going to quit that day! LOL

Then I was on Burlington Northern and got laid off due to cutting back the crew sizes from 4 to 2. Got paid to be off. Went to Tulsa and worked where they were short o' ppl. Got paid in WA not to work. Got paid in OK to work my butt off. Raked in some bux that year. Then I went back to school. When BN called in the middle of the semester telling me to move to Vancouver, WA, I drove to Spokane, signed my release, they paid me out the balance due from the contract that they were paying me off of and off I went back to school w/ bux in hand.

Worked out perfectly.

When I used to be an engineer I got laid off lots of times (all jobs were construction related). Employers never give notice, and I've adopted the same principle. I called in sick at my old job for a couple of days while working at the new one, just to make sure I'd like it before I quit the old place (by email and playing the Take This Job and Shove It into the big bosses voice mail). And no notice . Most places don't give severance anymore and fire you when you give your notice anyway so there is no sense for you to EVER give notice.

A lot of places do this now so that they don't have to pay for your unemployment benefits.

Yeah, i got laid off back in May. Walked in on Monday morning, hadnt even got to my desk only to be told to leave straight away. Hadnt been there long enough to get any decent money out of them. I wasnt bitter until this week when I looked on the website and saw that they had appointed a new a guy as one of the directors.

metallibloke - I can relate. I was laid off earlier this year with the excuse given that they needed to streamline operations and eliminate my position. Two weeks later, they'd outsourced my job to someone else who charged twice my salary.

just get a letter of recommdation and just start looking

Sorry to hear about that Jal. I got laid off just over a month a go from a large tech company in Canada. Thing are looking great so far. I've been through the second interview process with two companies and expect both of them to make me an offer by the end of this week. Both positions are a step up from what I was doing. I would be moving from being a programmer/analyst to a business analyst.

The headhunters I have talked to, today, say they can get me in another place fast. I told them, I will give them a piece of my severance if they do

Edit: I talked to the Bank, about my Mortgage, and things we could do, if the worst happened and we needed help.. Their reply &quot; Sell the house before the worst happens&quot; I thought they had interest in helping you, but seems they don't.
