I got my walking papers today. Good ol Reorganization.

Package was good, no complaints with that.

This is a first for me. Anyone been through this?

Yeah, I had a mechanical assembly job once putting together those one time use Kodak cameras. It was with a local company that contracted with Kodak. The Owner came in on a Thursday night and told us that tomorrow would be our last day. One days notice; what the heck? Kodak decided to produce the cameras in Mexico instead since people down there will work for almost nothing.

Yep, and still looking for work. Just amazing how employees are supposed to be loyal, yet employers refuse to be.

Yup. I worked for a failing dot com company for about 7 months. They laid us off the first week of December. How's that for timing? :|

Ended up in a better position for a better company. More money, responsibility, less actual work

Good luck.

Actually volunteered to be layed off from CompUSA about a 1 1/2 months ago, fit quite well with my plans to move to El Paso that would've been without a severence package otherwise. 'Course that's the kicker, we (my wife, myself, and our 6 mo old baby) moved to El Paso. Yessiree, what a land of opportunity this border town of post-NAFTA lovin' is. Just hope the Air Force get's my booty shipped out before the package dries up. =/

i worked at subway when I was 16, and this place had the worst goddamn management team ever. I went for about 1 month and then i said "FVCK it" one day and stop going, so i was "dismissed" so they say, went in, gave them my clothes, picked up my check and left

danny~!

Two things i would really enjoy as careers: computers, biology.
I chose biology and medicine to avoid layoffs via corporate flight.

I worked at a hotel a few years back. They put me 'on call' when business was slow one winter. They never called me.. I didn't like my job much anyway.

I'm curious how those of you who've felt the tremmors of the dot bomb are recovering. Me, I'm finding it hard as hell to find work comperable even to the last job I had (and that one was a down from my previous work as far as salary is concerned.) Spooky time to be in IT, no?

<< well at least they gave her notice... most of the time there IS no notice >>

Sometimes advance notice is bad...from the day of The Notice until your final day, you never can approach your job the same way. It's horrible, being a terminal employee. You just want to get outta there.

I got laidoff by a dotcom 2 months ago. Walked into work/please come into so-and-so's room/we're going to have to let you go/packed up and left. I might be going back there, though, if their business prospects improve. The VCs have them all on short leashes and tight budgets.

Do you think employers like laying people off? or firing them for that matter?

Try running a business and be responsible for meeting a payroll. For every bad managmement team or terrible company, there are plenty of employee's who screw company's, or 'get fired on purpose' to join someone else.

One of the chemical plants we are designing for laid off some people this week. They came to work one morning, but didn't even get to go past the security gate. Company just handed them their packages and said go home. I suppose they didn't want a disgruntled employee who just found out his job is only lasting another week to be in charge of millions of gallons of hazardous chemicals.

Got laid off on January 31st from Applied Materials. Was very lucky and found a good job 2 weeks later. I suppose it happened for a reason because I like my new job much better, albeit less pay.

We really had no notice. Decent severance package though.

Face it folks, the boom is over. Time to tighten the belts somewhat.

I got laid off from a job I was at for ten and a half years. No notice. We knew there was a big layoff happening, we just didn't know how deep it would go.

I have survived many layoffs, and it is almost better if you are let go. Morale gets really low.

Yes, I got laidoff over 20 years ago. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. From then on I said "screw unions", and hello free enterprise system.
I will never work for anyone again for salary or hourly pay, or any other environment where I am not in control of my income or time. I like it like that!

Yep, sure have.

Got laid off from a steel mill for about 10 weeks. Wasn't a big deal, though. I drew unemployment AND S.U.B. (Supplemental Unemployment Benefits) which came out of the company's pocket. Also during that time, I worked for $8 an hour helping some dude plant shrubs. I was making almost as much money laid off as I was working.

Went back to work for another year and a half and then the place shut down.
