Ever had Peking duck?

I was fortunate enough to have it at Quan Ju De in Bejing about 2 years ago. I was there on business and had a great time. They are famous for their Peking Duck. They slice it in exactly 120 cuts, if I remember correct. It was an excellent meal.

Orange chicken at Chinese takeout places are complete crap. Need authentic orange peel chicken which is less sweet and has flavoring from the aged dried citrus peels.

expensive (and delicious) peking duck (2 common preps, one with pancake and the other with buns). The below pics aren't even that good, the REALLY good places will pull the skin off the meat and scrape off the fat.

I ate it thrice in the last year, twice in a place that is big enough to have it available on most days, and more recently in a place where you have to order 24-hours in advance.

The 24h advance duck significantly better.

It doesn't take 24 hours at the chinese restaurants we frequent in Flushing... chinese people everywhere - I guess they (we) order it a lot and it's always ready to go. I don't particularly care for it but I'll eat it if it's ordered.

Friend of mine went to China and bought peking duck right off the street for $5. He said it was better than any stupid restaurant version he'd had.

The best local food often comes from street vendors or holes in the wall so this doesn't really surprise me.

Yeah, I had it when I went to Beijing in August. It was pretty good, like a duck taco. And for some reason they got real offended when I called it a duck taco, even though they have my wrap the duck in this green tortilla-ish thing.

True story: We were at a security conference in Beijing before the Olympics, and a group of us decided to go to dinner at a local restaurant where they had pretty good Peking duck. One white guy in the group exclaimed "This is not right, we're in China, I'm not going to eat Peking duck in Beijing, I want to go to Peking for the Peking duck". He was serious.
