When I was in high-school I was obsessed with robotics, especially for the purpose of surveillance for some reason. I created a system of ground surveillance using units I called GSUs (ground surveillance unit; clever, eh?). I had a blimp that was to be mounted with a receiver that would take the position of GSU coordinates. To be cute, I called the whole system ASS for Artificial Satellite System.

I got as far as having the blimp and the GSUs, but never got a comprehensive positioning system working. I wrote the software in C at the time.

Anyway, about 3 years later I was reading in Popular Mechanics that NASA had created an almost identical system.

Putting syrup directly into pancake mix. This was when I was still in elementary/middle school I think. Then when I was in high school, fucking McGriddles came out - with syrup already in the sandwich!!! Bastards...

Back in 1974 during the Nixon impeachment news, I was 11 years old and ALL the TV channels were showing that dumb old Nixon. All my shows and cartoons were pre-empted. I was talking to my sisters and said, "There should be separate channels for news. They could have a whole channel for news, one for sports, one for movies, and just leave the rest of them alone so I can still watch cartoons while someone else is watching news."

So yeah, I invented cable TV.

I only have ideas that haven't been realized by others yet but have no expertise on how to get things going... I'm not going to say it here though because it's a goldmine I tell ya.

Yes, back in the late 80's, early 90's a good friend and I frequently discussed a video game that you could take a virtual person from birth to death and "live through him/her". Year later, SIMS was created.

Oh yeah, forgot about this one. Had the same idea. Complete with addons for which career you wanted, etc. Titled - "Life"

Yep, I had an idea a while ago for an anti-rubber necking device. It basically consisted of a fence/screen that could be collapsed into the trunk of a police cruiser and rapidly deployed at the scene of an accident to block the view of onlookers (hence, preventing rubber necking). I discovered later that someone had patented the idea, but as far as I can tell it has never been broughtto market.

Heh - I had the exact same idea. My idea was in the late 80s - when was yours?

I've also had that idea, haha. I've never seen it used, though.

90's, when I started driving. I figured that in the event the devices did not work to prevent rubbernecking, the police could sell advertising space on them. Just imagine, "This accident brought to you by Burger King!"

I had a brilliant idea that was stolen from me:

It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different conclusions written on it that you could jump to.

This was basically my idea. My idea didn't include a cart mounted system or GPS but it was a kiosk that would give you information on what you wanted and where you can find it. Obviously they had a lot of refinements on what I thought up. The reason for my idea was a trip to the grocery store to find raisins. Who knew they were with the fresh produce?

I've invented tons of things that were STOLEN:

The cough syrup lollipop was something I invented (I actually froze cough syrup and made it into a popsicle...kids loved them when sick). It showed up in stores a few weeks later.

Those plastic channels to hide your speaker wire? Mine.

Amplifier for your headphones? I made one in 1993. Some dorks put a 9V powered one and put it in a mint tin, and are making $$$$$ now.

My latest one is a refrigerated wooden "barrel" for your kitchen that holds the new boxed wines that are showing up everywhere. There was some breakthrough in box spigots, so boxed wines are now being offered by a lot of wine producers. This way, the barrel would look a bit more classy, have slots on the side for wine glasses, etc. This will be for sale by someone within a month. Just watch.

EDIT: CRAP!!!http://boxedwinespot.blogspot....006_10_30_archive.html

Google Street View. I always sucked at directions so I thought it would be cool if you could just see the place you want to go and recognize it when you get there.

When I was a kid I came up with that idea to make little snickers balls so you could snack on them like large M&Ms, I even went as far to prove my idea to mom by dissecting a bar and making little balls from it.

Year latter I saw it in the store, bastards were watching me!
