Ever have an idea back in the day just to see someone actually invented/put it to use?

Years ago my friend and I were thinking about good ways to make money business wise. We had a rough idea of a cell phone service that alerts you to speed traps, red light cameras, etc. I was in the store the other day browsing through a car mag and there it was.

Doh!

Edit: Sorry I changed the title, Id actually like to see if anyone else had ideas in the past they were thinking about and long and behold, someone actually put them to use.

I once had this idea about a circular device rotating around a fixed point, and how several of these devices working in tandem could greatly increase the efficiency of moving large objects. Less friction on the ground, you know.

I was designing this website that people could download music from and I was gonna be rich. Then I had a party and a week later someone opened up the same website I had been working on. If only I woulda been a little faster.

I joked to a coworker in the early 80's that I was going to start a company called Panacea Inc to convert application programs using 19xx years to 20xx years. I realized at the time some programs would need to be changed but I had no idea how much work was going to be involved in the Y2K conversions many companies went through a decade+ later.

Yep, I had an idea a while ago for an anti-rubber necking device. It basically consisted of a fence/screen that could be collapsed into the trunk of a police cruiser and rapidly deployed at the scene of an accident to block the view of onlookers (hence, preventing rubber necking). I discovered later that someone had patented the idea, but as far as I can tell it has never been broughtto market.

Years ago at a party we were competing to think up the stupidest business idea. Mine didn't win but it was a mug with a clock. Since no one had done it, it qualified as a new idea, but it was stupid in that who needs a clock on a mug?
