Ever just not want to get off your current platform

I have a 920 i7 cpu, mb, and Ram, that's been sitting for almost a yr and i'm still farting around with this Q9650. For some reason I feel this Q9650 will have the resale value my FX60 did back when and I don't want to let it go. I just really have fond memories with 775 - great overclocking time for me... The thing that lightly nags me to swap to the i7 is doing video editing + transcodes and audio creation... if i jump to the i7, i will lose out on 2g from my current machine and gain some idle wattage drawl...

oh woe is me

No, but honestly, my E8500 has been pretty loyal to me, before i had to replace my ram, this baby did 4GHz on air.

The guy who set up that OC for me was the one that blew up my RAM

So i can't really OC now til i get a new set that can dual channel at the same frequency.

S775 is pretty awesome to be honest, even though it's soon to be 3 generations behind.

I know what you mean. I just recently switched from my S939/FX-60 machine which I built in early 2006. It just worked too well to move away from and as far as speed is concerned, I didn't really need anything faster. With my two 8800 GTs it still gamed fine, most games on max settings. Great platform, I hope my current machine lasts that long (AMD/965 @ 4GHz).

I'm still on a 775 system and still love it, as a matter of fact OP I think I have the other Q9650 you had, not a bad chip. I am waiting til fall or so to change platforms here.

I have an E8600 running at 4.2 GHz right now and it's super fast for everything I do. I honestly don't think any upgrade will be noticeable for what I do.....it's ashame I can't do an upgrade to a S775 Quad due to PSU reasons...otherwise I'd definitely do it since I have a Microcenter nearby with sick S775 quad deals.

LOL, that was you I sold it too? What a great chip! The overclocking problem I was having was not related to the chip but the memory and board. You got a steal! Lucky you

I picked it up from another party here on the FS/Forum,too funny. I kinda thought it was you as at Xtreme I searched for the stepping and your posts over there popped up. I have her running at 9 x 454 @ 1.34v here and am sure she will go higher with the appropriate voltage. Temps with IBT only hit 48 and 51c. I'm happy!

I've been an AMD user for years now before getting an i5-760 earlier this month and I still haven't put it and its paired up 785G mobo for sale. I've been very happy with those two for a long while.

I love my x58 platform, and intend to keep it till late 2012 or early 2013. By far the best and most easy to work with platform i have used for overclocking since the celeron 300A days.

yes but I cant shake the upgrade bug. Whats great is I just pulled a Q6600 from one of my older Dell Vostro systems (BSEL modded to 3GHz), swapped in an E6300 (BSEL modded to 2.3GHz) , and gave that system to my cousin for xmas.

I just bought a cheap 775 DDR3 mobo so I can mess around with that. Still plenty of power for some games. My current system should last, until BD is released, lol.

My old rig was an Athlon 64 3800+. I couldn't wait to throw that thing in the trash.

I just bought two Q9300s from MC to upgrade two of my rigs.
Socket 775 is going to have a long life for me (I hope).
Plan on keeping these rigs another three years, at least.

I know a few people with LGA 775s Q9*** that are going to run them until they die. LGA 1366 is going to have a long life as well.

I tend to keep a build for around 5 years or so, video card not withstanding.

2 LG775 systems here and love it, whenever I think about upgrading I think about what the "money spent" will actually improve for me.

The answer is always, $800-1000 for a new PC = VERY minimal improvement AT BEST.

My current PCs do everything I need VERY VERY well and I'm very happy with them. I don't see myself upgrading for at least another year or 2.

Do I get itchy fingers? Sure, but that's because I simply love building rigs/hardware and research.

Problem is, my budget doesn't allow for that kind of play right now and the need is simply not there (not even close).

Simply cannot justify ANY upgrade at this point. Maybe when Gaming industry comes out with some new graphic milestone or something.

I don't see it....

E4300 system I had for 3 years got upgraded this year w/ a Q9300 CPU and radeon 5770. Honestly it does everything I need it to do -- since my gaming is pretty much all consoles now the only thing I'd need a faster CPU for in a home system is faster encodes. The quad CPU takes pretty good care of that, and differences are insignificant when you can process jobs overnight.

Upgradeitis has mutated pretty wildly this year, though -- probably spent 3 times what I would every couple years for PCs on audio equipment, and proceeded to also get a whole ton of new music from various genres (though mostly jazz). And that's with most of the equipment purchased used, well below the original asking price. I do feel it was worth the money spent; everything sounds better, including games and dvds. It's more difficult to find a reasonable price/performance ratio than something like gaming performance, but it can still transform an experience that you may currently think has hit the wall.

That said, I hope something comes out that makes me want to tweak my PC as well. Diablo 3, perhaps?

Phenom X4 9850 is the oldest thing I've got running still, replaced everything else with Athlon II/Phenom II parts. I'll probably keep using this thing for another couple years too, not my main machine anymore but still regularly used.

I am ready for a 2500K or 2600K setup. I think I will just sell my entire pc instead of upgrading the cpu/mobo/ram. I have had this pc for a little over 2 years so a completely new pc will be nice. I might have trouble selling my pc with Vista though and I sure as heck am not putting my copy of 7 on it...

Hmmm, the pic was right after the OS install. I've installed the updates and now it's idling around 133w and I still haven't gotten the drives in yet. Same config, nothing changed but OS updates, Creative driver install, and AMD/ATI driver install.. this is interesting, very interesting.

EDIT: oops, false alarm.... looks to be settling ~ 108-109w YAAAAY
