The 40-hour work week has long been antiquated. It was a battle hard fought by the unions with blood in a far different more regressive time.
Between 5 days a week 8 hours a day plus many people have to commute still, there is not enough time left for living from work just living to work.
Especially if you have a family, and you have to raise kids, free time is a tiny part of your year.
Plus with email and texts many jobs you end up working quite a bit after hours. It's always part of your time including most of your free time.
One just has to look at wealth inequality to see why this is so. A four-day work week is still most of your week working. But that's not enough for this parasitical owner class.
