I have telocity right now and I would strongly recoomend that no one go with them. Since I have had their service, I have had issues with them overselling bandwidth, being unable to repair a simple routing problem, experienced constand downtime, etc.... Furthermore, their techincians are morns. They barely speak english and are obviously unaware of how DSL technology works. I had to sit on the phone with a guy and explain to him what tracrt meant and how their routers were screwing things up (bouncing data back and forth in an endless loop between two of their DNS numbers). If you want constant downtime, sign with them. Otherwise, I would recommend that you see if there are other alternatives available in your area such as two way cable..... Just my two cents.

I have had Telocity SDSL since January 20th, 2001. It has gone down for minutes up to hours a few times. But here is the problem My service has been down since Monday and they say my Trouble Ticket is still in review.

I told them the problem it appears my modem is not "Synching" up with the DSLAM at the CO.

I will let you guys know when it is back up!

I've got telocity service here in Mountain View. I've had pretty decent service other than a relatively slow line (425Kbps) and tons of lost or dropped packets.

But...the hardware is free, the install is free, you get a static IP, the upload speeds are decent (372Kbps if you're on a SDSL line like me), they allow web/ftp/gamesrv hosting, and there is no year-long contract.

If you want something fast and reliable, don't go for Telocity. If you want something decent, without committing yourself to a year of service, that lets you host a website from your closet, go for Telocity.

What happens to the FREE modem if I choose to cancel my service?

If you cancel your service with us, you simply need to return the DSL Gateway modem to us. We will even pay the shipping back!

Free modem is misleading. They should say "free USE of modem"

Nothing from Telocity is "free", even the aggravation they cost you costs real money. They will let you ship the modem back, if you ever get the shipping information from them. They will eventually try to charge you for "not returning" the modem. And if you think you can sign up for one month for free and then cancel, well think again. Even after you cancel 10 times, your card keeps getting charged until you change the card number or canel the card altogether. I'm a recovering Telocity user, and would steer a mile clear of anything to do with them.
