You have to be a special kind of person to actually want to live in the heartland/midwest areas. Most people just grow up there and become trapped with kids/bills. Pacific NW is absolutely beautiful and will be a nice change of pace from where you're at now. Do it, if you have the guts to take that step.

Well, honestly, I've thought about moving to northern Wisconsin, the UP of Michigan, or Minnesota, but it would be one hell of a commute to work, and I really like where I'm working, so I don't consider it an option .... maybe in 35-40 years once I'm ready to retire I'll give it another thought ....

I know I'd like to live for a while where:

it's hot on Christmas Day
snow starts in october and ends in april
it's cold in July
there are mountains with snow all year long
a view of the ocean
off the beaten path for a bit
in/near a big city...

oh I want it all, just not all at once, bits at a time.

oh and someone to pay to move us around. lol

This is probably why I haven't finished college, still looking for the right place to live for 5 years. I don't love the work I do, but it's enough to keep me busy. I'd love to just pack up and live at my grandparent's old place in the Adirondacks. So scenic and peaceful up there. But no jobs in my field.

Im 35 and been in K.C. for 11 years now. Ive been toying with just up and moving to either Portland or Denver. Basically somewhere with more outdoor activites then boring K.C. offers.

I thought about answering the call west (Canada) for a while. Then I realized that I have nothing to actually offer, and the pay may be good, but the cost of living is huge.

Today, I realized that I probably live in the best city in my country; Canadian with a dash of Americana. Nowhere else I'd rather be right now. I wouldn't mind working temporarily in the Arctic though.

I've done that 4 times, once by myself when I was 23. We're settled down now and it's highly unlikely that we'll do it again, but we're currently planning a two month long trip for next summer. Buying a boat and living out of it in the islands of SE Alaska.

Yeah Spain is very nice, I love it there but I miss my friends from the U.S. and I am just too used to American life I guess I was in the U.S. from 16 till 23, so had a very independent life since 16 and its just a PITA to deal with family again

I am in the same boat as the OP and others. That's why I haven't buy a house yet even I am ready, willing, and able <financially speaking>.

I am still undecided what state in the US I will settle down at, although Texas is ahead at the moment <cheap housing and decent jobs>. Not going to move to Souther Calif or NYC area because of expensive housings/costs of living.

I may move back home in Asia for good if I like what I see this homecoming trip in a few months.

Decisions, decisions....maybe next year about this time, I will create a thread..."Help me ATOT, where in the world shall I move to"

I've lived in Massachusetts all my life, grew up in western MA, now live and working near Boston. I think I need to spend 10+ years out west, AZ/NM/MT/WY or maybe northern CA/OR/WA.
If I don't find a job opportunity in one of these places this year, I may just save over the next 8 months and move without having a job lined up. My sister lives in the bay area, so I could crash with her.

Thats where I picked up and moved to from the east coast. Never want to leave.
