I thought that thing was shrink wrapped at first. Jeez that was a messed up iPad.

Are the 'new' backs and front window parts new or salvaged from other broken units?

I did think you were going to vacuum the table top before bringing out the new back piece, but you know your mat better than we do.

Nitpicks...I'd spray the cleaner/clean the screen before pulling the plastic off the double-sided tape.

Major problem....that music. I like to crack on Michigan, but jeez, a lot of good music came from Michigan. Still you listen to whatever that was.

LOL. You think your Chinese electronics are assembled by white-gloved rocket scientists. That's cute.

There's nothing wrong with the OP's methods. He is obviously someone who is capable of working with his hands, unlike most of you dick-fingered nerds. ;P
Gosh, if I was that way I'd be slapping people left and right.

I am a LOT more delicate when I do this. You must not care about scratching new parts to continues working on the same surface with all the glass shards.

Anyway, what do you do with the old housing?

Yep I buy the backs from another recycler. I am pretty sure he buys ios loced units and parts them out. Its basically an ipad without a mainboard, screen or battery.

I used to fuss over the broken glass until I found that with the mat, it doesn't do anything but waste time. I vacuum the mat a couple times a day but only because I start getting cut.

The reason I take the tape off before cleaning the lcd is the lcd collects lint like crazy. The goal is to have the screen on as soon as possible after cleaning the lcd. Otherwise I spend a ton of time recleaning the lcd. Its also the reason why I can't wear cotton gloves.

And don't hate on MC! He's the man.

Scratches aren't an issue at all.

The old ones go in a box. I'll find a use for them at some point....maybe.

nice work, if I did my personal device I'd probably be a bit fusier but the guy probably has some metrics or quota that needs to be met. I bought a phone from someone who did the same thing iphones, he'd buy broken ones and fix them. What kind of roll of tape is that?

i've fixed a handful of ipads and i know you get faster every time you do it, but you have to miss shards of glass every once in a while by not being slightly more tiddy.

instead of wiping the screen, just blast it with compressed air to clear the lint

thats why i never buy used stuff from those sites. some of those after market parts are not real gorilla or whatever glass your tablet/phone manufactures uses.. cheap plastic replacement parts, breaks easier

So do you get paid for each unit? Or is it hourly? Remind me to never buy refurb phone or tablet.

I've fixed two phones this way, one with just a broken screen, the other with a broken screen and digitizer. Takes about 30 minutes and whole hell of a lot cheaper than either buying a new phone or taking it to a repair shop.

Btw, ever considered an electric screwdriver that has an adjustable torque?
Awfully small screws. Very easy to over torque them plus it would be difficult to get a "feel" that they are started square and not cross threading. I'm sure somebody makes the right tool for the job but the cost may be prohibitive.
