I have this painful lump on my neck, and today I was weighing my options for getting it looked at/fixed. No money and no medical insurance and this option DID cross my mind. (Don't think I'll opt to go that route though.) But it did make me wonder if some people DO commit crimes in this country in order to GET health care they could otherwise NOT afford.

I don't know about your question, but in CA anybody can go to any emergency room and get free health care. They are required by law to treat you the same as if you had health insurance.

Nope, no bills. How do you think the poor and all the illegal aliens get quality health care? They use the emergency rooms as their primary health providers, they can't be turned away and they don't have to pay.

Yes, you will definately get a bill.

Depends....the hospital I work for is non profit. If you can't pay they will write off the expense of your treatment. They normally write off between 1-2 million per month.

Well our local hospital is supposedly a Catholic NON profit out fit.

Every time I've gone there ( once with a broken knee and once with phenomena ) they billed me and hounded me for the money when I wasn't able to pay.
