Everquest for Free in Chicago + East Coast

Across the street from the Sony Store in downtown Chicago is a Intel/Sony trailer giving away Everquest copies and books. The new user guide says "trilogy", classic and 2 expansions. It's part of the "EQ invasion tour 2002 here

If your in a major city, go see if they've got a date there.
Edit: Only east coast dates are left, sorry.

I asked the guy giving the CD out and he said that this is only the original version, and does not include any of the expansions. I haven't installed it yet.

Anyway, can't beat free!

can't beat free... but you'll still have to pay to play, unfortunately. its a great game that has taken up countless hours of my time until i kicked the habit about three years ago.

Question: Why is there an EQ invasion tour 2002? This is a 4-year old heroinware game, people. I could see if they let u beta-test EQ2 on the tour, but they aren't, and it seems purposeless. Too much of their target audience has either broken the habit or, like my cousin, lost most of what they owned due to joblessness due to EQ, including their computer. I've been EQ-free since early 2k0, and I've pledged never to try it again.

Ugh.. I'm about to hijack a thread I started..
K, It has no expansions.. I installed it under XP just after I posted.. the patch server was "congested" so after 3 hours of clicking start (and rebooting), it finally loads and crashes to desktop after I choose the Video Card (Ge3Ti200). Then after all night searching their knowledge base and waiting for their long distance phone to open, I get nothing but busy signals. 1 1/2 hour queue for "support chat" leaves me one line about changing VisitedLuclinOptions=FALSE to TRUE.

After I give 'em my Credit Card #.. looking forward to starting a addiction at 19, I start a character and walk around left and right clicking on NPCs do nothing. After 30 mins drowning because options lists no "swim" command and falling off cliffs, I ended my account. Hearing so much about the game, I thought it would be an easy system.. HAH!

Maybe the drug dealers will have more mercy. I used to believe nothing beats free.. but EQ hurt my faith in HD's motto. Plus $30 a month for an "elite" server? $30 for every expansion? I played Neverwinter Nights on AOL through a DOS shell in Win 3.1 w/ more stability @ $3.50 and hour plus $30.

Considering there isn't even a single player version of the game and you have to pay monthly fees to play, they should be giving away the CD and/or make it available for download for free..

I will never pay a monthly fee to play just one game...

Err... did you read the manual first??? Most role playing games come with a thick a$$ manual for a reason Anyway, you have to "Hail" NPCs via a button in order to initiate conversations. There is no "swim" command, but it is a skill so you start out swimming VERY slowly. Frequent swimming increases the skill until you're like a fish in water.

Anyway don't feel too bad, my very first EQ character was a human paladin in Freeport. He died ignominiously to some fishes in the Freeport sewers cuz I couldn't figure out how to get back out of the water, LOL. It takes a while to get accustomed to, but it's a great game once you become attached to your character and get addicted to making him/her more powerful. Once you get into the social aspect of it, taking down gods and dragons with guilds, then it's like pure digital crack. I got tired of it a year ago, but it's definitely got me hooked on MMORPGs. Can't wait for Star Wars: Galaxies, EQ2, and World of Warcraft to come out. I don't mind paying the monthly fee seeing as how I get so much enjoyment out of these type of games (beats the heck out of $7 for a 2 hour movie), plus when you get bored of it you can sell the accounts for decent money to recoup back costs.
