before purchasing EQ II definitely play in the WoW open beta

it should definitely start before the launch of EQ II im guessing around Nov 2 but it may be as late as Nov 8th

At the peak of my Evercrack addiction I would say I spent probably 6-10 hours in a 24 hour period playing, but I know people that have spent 12+ hours a day playing!! I haven't played in 3 months, I'm on an EQ Holiday~!

lol...I defintely don't have that much time, my wife would kill me or worse yet, destroy my PC. Plus school and work. I probably could play for 6 hours a week.

But it's SoE, so it will be out. Look at SWG, they rushed it out. The game had horrible bugs in it. One bug wouldn't let me log back on till the servers restarted.

I'm in the beta for both WoW and EQ2 and I totally disagree with the whole WoW > EQ2 BS. People say WoW gameplay is better because that is the only thing it has over EQ2. EQ2 has way better graphics, sound that blows away most FPS's and ALL other RPGs out there (MMO and otherwise), a quest system that blows away WoW's, a crafting system that blows away WoW's, a superior spell system, more items, a dev team with 6 years of experience in the MMORPG field (WoW's dev team has ZERO), and most importantly of all, a world that is immersive. You feel like you are there, like a virtual reality. WoW plays more like a game, not as much immersion.

And to those that don't understand paying $15 a month, try it first and you will see. I have not met one single person who didn't think it was worth it. I have met dozens of people who now think playing single player games are a waste of time and money. I also know people who have made a net profit playing EQ/DAOC/UO/SWG/EVE, etc. Show me a single player game where you can actually make real money.

Sorry for the rant, but some of those replies were driving me crazy.

Also, seriously, get the collectors edition for $89. You get a pet dragon for Pete's sake.

you concede that WoW has better gameplay yet you still say EQ is a better game?

to me gameplay is everything

the gfx engine my not be as good as EQ's but imo the worlds / artwork of WoW >>>>>>> EQ 2

Sign me up. I at least have to try it.

Me I LOVE games with monthly fees. It makes it so much easier for me to make money playing them. While I have payed SoE hundreds of dollars for the last year playing SWG I have made thousands of dollars selling credits on either eBay or to the wholesale sites. People with plenty of real life money are always willing to shell out to make things easier on themselves

Hmm, I came here hoping to find the cheapest places to get EQ2. However, after the first 2-3 posts, almost everything else had been thread crapping. Please stop thread-crapping, it's against the rules. And before you say it's relavent, NO it is not. The OP wasn't posting about WoW in any way, shape, or form. The OP wasn't posting about WoW versus EQ2 in any way.

Seems to me the CompUSA with penny overnite shipping is the best deal if you want it immediately - am I wrong?

i'd actually pick eq2 over wow any day. those outdate graphics will get old pretty quickly. looks like they took warcraft3 and worked on it.

and i can understand the fees, they are constantly adding new things to the world, fixing bugs, and what not.

but guild wars with no fees?? i am!!

I can understand your point. I am the original poster on this one and I did know that before even posting, that there was going to be a lot of debate over EQII vs WoW... it's inevitable. Both of these games are the talk of the MMORPG industry and for the more serious gamers, people want to be able to spend their time on something worthwhile. You can't blame people for trying to find out as much info as possible before making a purchase...game or otherwise. BTW, I appreciate the people who are beta testers giving out info. Good or bad, I always like to read what other people think about this stuff. It helps to give me a better idea of what I may or may not be getting myself into.

For me, I'm essentially going for the game that is first released because I've been itching to get back into this type of gaming since leaving DAoC over a year ago. If EQII begins to bore me, I'll buy WoW. Ya, I'm shellin out another 50 bucks...but I want to enjoy the game I choose to play.

BTW, the CompUSA deal does look pretty good, but GoGamer is really good about getting their stuff shipped quickly and they are in CA which is where I am.

I have WoW beta. It rocks. Going to wait for its release. Suppose to be around Nov. 22nd according to their publisher Vivendi. Heard of a ton of problems with EQ2. I mean... are they even having an open beta? I am not aware of one, probably so they don't lose sales.

I'd read some of the class boards for EQ1 before you consider EQ2. A large number of "addicted" eq1 players want nothing to do with EQ2 or any other offerings run by the same people due to customer support, bug fixes, and playability issues.

I'm one of them, played EQ1 for 5 and half years. I will never play a SOE game again. They release unfinished games and their customer support is horrible. If your a sadist, EQ2 is for you.

My entire guild Fires of Heaven, which was an EQ1 guild since it was beta back in '99 is switching to World of Warcraft and are not looking back.

I play EQ and wouldn't even consider EQ 2! Too much time invested in the first one, not to mention what I've payed for expansions for the original. I myself have always had great CS from there, I had left the log in screen on and my brother needed to use my computer, instead of hitting quit he hit delete!! I contacted CS and they restored my toon the same day. Any issue I have had in game a GM has answered and has even come to me in game to help me.

The constant patching of the game is a real pain too, I know they are necessary, but when they do an 8 hour patch to fix something and the server is up for 20 minutes and you see the message please log out server is coming down for an emergency fix it really sucks!

For the first 6 months of Everquest I averaged over 50 hours a week.
I expect to average around 30 hours a week for the first month or two of EQ2.

I was a really, really late joiner but now have played for a year. From my view you can buy all the expansions and the game for $20, and for a month free, you get a ton of game play in EQ1. As for starting out in a new game, paying $50 to do what amounts to extended beta testing... that's a bit troubling to me. The last two expansions really left a sour taste in people's mouths and I know issues surrounding them caused a mass exodus. From what beta testers have said the new game might not be ready yet, hopefully they'll let us have an open beta so we can find out for ourselves. There's a lot of great gameplay to be had in the franchise if they can keep the bugs and service issues to a minimum.

Cheers

Casual MMORPG gamer is probably spending about 10 hr/week or less.
Majority is spending 10-20 hr/week
Powergamers probably spend about 6-12 hr/day in it. In a month, that's a LOT of game time for the subscription fee.

Usually those games are so demanding that people playing them don't have time for many of them. See the comments on WoW OR EQ 2 in here. So basically, playing those games and paying $15/month replaces the purchasing of more new games every month. So it's not as bad a deal for your entertainment $$$. I mean go see 2 movies a month and you'll pay more than that for what 3-4 hrs of entertainment? You're also paying $40+ for cable TV and not thinking twice about it although it's 3 times as much as subscription and you may spend less time in front of TV than in game. /shrug

It's a new conscept for people to grasp I think but those games aren't that bad a deal even as a casual gamer.

Now that is some of the best news i have heard in reguards to EQII! WOOT!

AS for WoW vs EQ2, as a person who has played both (beta) WoW is a EQ Lite, its to easy (I know, alot of people like it that way). Both will be good games, so play them and form your own opinion.

To add to this, I've been in EQ Since Beta 4 and finally gave up on it when OOW was announced. I've gotten into the EQ2 Beta, its far from finished, they're rushing it and frankly gives me reason not to even bother with them. I mean come on, less than 3 weeks from "release" and they're adding in NEW stuff. How can you properly test this in 3 weeks?
