Sorry for the rant, but some of those replies were driving me crazy.

Also, seriously, get the collectors edition for $89. You get a pet dragon for Pete's sake.

LOLOLOLOL....
Sound and Grafics better than wow?
i dont think so...
Quest system better than WoWs? rofl...
WoW is completely better in every single aspect that I have tested it agasint..
just beasue SOE desgined an Engine that requires a 5ghz Machine and 6 gigs of ram on a 2 gig Vid card to run at max does not make a good game...
the grafics even at high on my system are so so at best...
looks like they borrowed parts of SWGs engine and divided it up into 100000000000000 zones that you have to cross every 5 seconds...
not to mention that they are havign to instance even normal areas to keep lag under control..

WoW has 200x the number of quests for each level...
you never even have to kill a mob that is not part of a quest if you dont want to from 1-60..
EQ2 quest system is laughable...
you have a conversation you have to steer through to get half ass information on where to go and who to see.. but that information is usally incomplete and you still end up having to ask wtf theya re talking about..
in WoW all Quest NPCs are marked when they have a quest for you..
when you talk to them they give you eveyr detail about the quest including the reward so you can deem weather or not its worth your time to do...
this is ingenious...and the way it should be...

WoW makes even lower level player feel like they are going on meaningful raids and rewards them appropraitly... EQ2 treats you like a peon...
the rewards are crappy for the time invested...

oh well you go play your EQ2.. ill go PVP on wow and have real fun instead of work...

I mean come on, less than 3 weeks from "release" and they're adding in NEW stuff. How can you properly test this in 3 weeks?

they havent even tested the level cap yet...
they are only working with 1-50 right now...
the level cap is 100 as announced...
wtf is wrong with them...
you cant just add 50 levels worth of char advancement.. spells abilities traits quests and content without testing...

this is a hand grenade waiting to go off in SOEs lap..
this will end up biting them in the butt watch and see

Kinda back on my original post.. I'm not ranting against gameplay or graphics etc. strictly speaking this game would cost you roughly 260.00 for 1 year and 2 upgrades to it "expansion packs" I realize they won't be releasing them quite that quickly.. for which you'll still be paying 15.00 a mo. till they do.

I can play any number of games out there for free "after initial purchase" with some of the highest rated gameplay and user created mods. Notice I said USER created. You cannot do that with this game.. what you get is what you got. I've played morrowind 4 times through and never once played the same game.. same quests occasionally.. but the user added quests and bodies and NPC's make it a terrifyingly huge game.

I just don't believe one should have to pay and pay and pay to play and play and play. No doubt it's a great game.. but it has no USER support.. your pal can't host his own EQ2 server you can't rent your own.. etc. I had a pal back when eq1 was the absolute rage making 10K a month from selling items. He had a backdoor tracer that would see what items people had and where they got them. He made a killing off people willing to pay.. and thats what EQ2 is doing to you

best of luck on your game.. it does sound magnificent.. but not 15.00 a month worth hehe
50,000 users x 15.00 a month for 1 year 9million?
50,000 users x 50.00 one time 2.5million ?
Holy cow.. how much bandwidth does this game need.. hahahaa.

I was in the WoW Stress Test, and I am currently in EQII Beta.

It's no contest for me. First off, I can not see a Nov 8th release date for EQII, not in its current state.
The week and a half I spent in WoW ST was far more enjoyable that EQII has been.
I will not be buying EQII, but I will be buying WoW.

Anybody know how likely is it that WoW will be released within November sometime? I know I read in an earlier post the 22nd of November, but you hear a lot of different dates.

This is Blizzard people. Expect to see WoW in stores sometime in 2005. Heck, they can't even figure out when the open beta will start LOL. On the positive side, it'll be worth the wait.

You obviously havn't played eq2 or don't know how to configure your machine.

I'm running eq2 with most of the eye candy turned on 1024x768 on a Dell 8600 Laptop With a 9600 ProTurbo & 512 megs of ram without any lag ~

After playing both WoW beta and EQ2 beta, there is no comparison. EQ2 is next gen while WoW sadly is not. The graphics in eq2 are just light years better there is no comparison.

WoW is just another EQ clone with not much new

EQ2 has what no other mmorpg has - immersiveness. Having a NPC talk to you as you walk by is incredible. The qwests are actually interactive and fun.

WoW = too few classes, too few races, everyone looks the same

I've was in the stress test for WOW, and thought it was OK. I spent a LOT of time playing it, got 2 toons above lvl 10 and 3 to around 7-8 but didn't seem to find it as enjoyable as most of the others here seem to have. Good, fun, but not 'must have.' Maybe because I haven't gotten high enough to get access to some great fun abilities or areas, I'm not sure. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to beta EQ2 to compare gameplay. However, I totally disagree with those that say WOW graphics are better than EQ2. EQ2 looks much better, to me. Before I get flamed, yes I realize personal graphics cards and settings can change it, and that personal taste is a factor; I'm just going by the in-game pictures of EQ2 I've seen. Gameplay means more to me though, so I'll hope to get in on EQ2 open beta.

I participated in an earlier GW event (E3 event, I think?), and am currently playing the open one through Oct 31st. Personally, I've found it fun but less so than WOW. But the free part is attractive. If WOW was free monthly, I'd definitely buy, but for the moment I'm undecided.

For those of you wanting some looks at actual gameplay graphics in EQII, check out my link in the original post in this thread.

Watch the movie called "In Depth: An Everquest II Movie". Its a large download, but trust me, well worth it. The graphics and detail they put into everything is simply put....AMAZING.

After playing WoW for a month it's coming along amazingly... I've palyed EQ for 5years off and on and WoW (and Blizzard) is superior in almost every possible way. This game is far more polished and complete than EQ2 will be in another year. The entire interface for EQ2 is so awful. To those pre-ordering EQ i urge you to try WoW in open beta before you throw away $60 for EQ2 (and then another $30 every 6 months for recurring expansions) I'll never play another SOE game after thier plain awful customer service, deception, and stupidity! Hopefully i didn't derail the thread too much

Why not try a game for free with open beta and be assured of an amazing game rather than get infuriated at the money you pay to beta test EQ2 when it comes out.

EQ2 is a waste, you are paying $50 + 15/month to play something that should be in beta for a good while longer.
WoW on the other hand will have open beta very very soon and is awsome Been in beta for a while and things are going along very very well.

I played EQ1. but got tired of all the "nerfs" they kept doing. I had a 50+level shamen wich they killed by giving spells that only they had to other classes. But the shamen was not the only one they did that to.

Not to mention how SOE treated the players. I had no problem selling my account. Though i did miss talking to some of they guys i would play with (5-10 hours a day).

I have been thinking of buying EQ2. BUT after STar Wars online (god that sucked) I don't think i will waste my money. NOT to mention the $15 sucks.

If i find a really good deal on it i might get it.

The way I see it is that EQII shows more potential in the long run. WoW may have the edge in playabilty right now, but after the bugs are worked out in it, it will be a better game overall. EQ is taking everything a step further that WoW is and when you do that, you will tend to have more bugs and issues to handle. WoW is basically copying EQ1, DaOC and others, and adding a few things here and there, but the core of the game and concept is the same.

I've heard similar complaints about WoW, so it sounds to me like its more of a preference thing. Either way, I'm going to buy whatever comes out first and it appears that's going to be EQII.

A lot of you are ripping on EQ2 based on your EQ1/SOE/SWG experiences. This is just plain prejudiced and wrong. EQ2 is a COMPLETELY different game. Trust me, I played EQ1 for many years and I quit in disgust with all the nerfing and poor SOE support, just like a lot of you. Earlier this year I was also excited about WoW, because it sounded like a lot of fun. And I got into the WoW beta and it was a lot of fun, kinda like Warcraft meets Diablo meets EQ1. But then I got into the EQ2 beta and I was skeptical. I'd learned to hate EQ1 and SOE, so my expectations were low and I did not want to get sucked into their trap again. So I played and read dev chat and saw what their plans were for the game. And the previous poster was right on with the statement that EQ2 is the NEXT GEN mmorpg. It is taking these types of games to the next level. There are bugs yes, but all games have bugs, WoW included. WoW has great gameplay, and is easy to love, and I don't doubt it will have a huge cult following (just like Eve, SWG, Daoc etc etc) - heck you can see that from the fanatics on this thread that attack EQ2. But if you play them side by side you'll see that EQ2 has way more innovation. And this is important when choosing a game that you will sink tons of time and money into.

But back to the purpose of ATHD, this is how I get the best deal on pre-orders. If you have a EBGames nearby, preorder from them. When the game is released, you go get it that day, no need to wait for shipping. Keep your receipt, because on Sunday the major retailers will release it for cheap, like 29.99 or 39.99 usually. Bring the ad to EBgames and they will pricematch. Be sure to ask about their pricematching policy beforehand though, since I'm not sure if all ebgames do this. But if you can, it's the best way to get a game on release day yet still take advantage of the sales that inevitably occur the week after.

Its funny that the guy says his whole guild FOH is going to WoW.. but they just posted several shots of a VOX raid on their website from the closed beta and rant about how good the game in in their forums...

I played EQ since it went live... played through to end game raids.. suffered through the key chases, the bugs, but all in all it was fun... there were great moments in it both roleplay driven and gameplay driven.

I'm going to EQ2 to see what they did with the history of the world. To explore the changes of the enviroments and to see how much story I can find. Thats why its winning out to me over WoW...

Seems to me that EQII in the long run will be a better game. For those that are in the long haul like many MMORPG gamers are, then you might wanna go with EQII.

Explain further please. I've researched both games, read all the posts here, etc etc. How is that biased? Opinionated...sure. I have the right to form my own opinion.

How much do you spend on games per month. I know that I generally have the attention span / time for only one or two games at a time, and if that game happens to occupy me for months, I'd be more than happy to spend $15 / month on it. Its still less money than I would spend buying Half Life 2, Halo 2, Vampire: Masquerade and EQ2........get my drift?

Money wise...on average I spend maybe $30 a month on games. I don't buy new games every month though, but rather probably buy a new game every 2 or 3 months. That's what is nice about MMORPGs is that for most people...they don't get old as quickly as most other games do. I mean, look at all the people post who have played the original EQ for 4 or 5 years. That is unheard of in most other genres and game titles with a few exceptions such as Starcraft for example.
