My specs first.

Core 2 duo
680i
2gigs ram
raptors
7900gtx(s)

I have Vista ultimate on main computer (desktop)

Can't download and install Nvidia drivers (WQHL) or beta (they download but won't install) 100.65 or 101.45
Creative drivers (same thing) even new release
Quicktime (same thing)
Java (same thing, though I got it through after a few hours lol)

All the files download but eror out upon the start of installation.
I have turned off UAC and shut down fireall (behind router)
I have unblocked file in properties and I have run as administrator. No luck

Is this not fixable or is there a security setting I am missing? My XP image file is itching for sure.

Office 2007 installed fine. Adobe installed fine. The ad-aware 2007 beta installed fine.

Thanks guys and gals

Windows update gives a 80246002 error for sql server express and texas holdem add-on. (Don't care about texas holdem)

Are you running the 64-bit or 32-bit version?

What errors are you getting?

I have the 32bit edition

I can download the vista nvidia drivers (100.65 or 101.45) and I can start to install them but everytime it starts to unpack it states:

"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."

There is an error message for ICQ and x-fi for a corrupt file in the unpacking stage, and quictime just doesn't install. It gives no error message. Java gave corrupt .cab file for a while but after trying a million different ways to install it it went through. Why? I have no idea.

Windows update gives the error message i stated in the title thread. Google has very little.

Edit: I have tried this with firewall (Windows Live One Care) on and off. No difference

Firewall settings might stop you from downloading things, but they wouldn't corrupt your data.

Odds are that there is a hardware problem somewhere. Either your NIC is busted, or you have a bad/flaky Ethernet cable, or you don't have correct drivers installed for your motherboard/NIC. Slimmer possibilities are that your router and/or DSL/Cable modem are not working right (assuming you have a router and/or DSL/cable modem).

Another possibility is that your system is not really stable. If you are overclocking anything, set it back to stock. Run some stability tests (like memtest86+ and Prime95) to ensure your system's hardware is working properly.

I turned my firewall off.

This occurs on my notebook vista machine as well so I don't think my overclock is at fault on my desktop.

Hmm. I am thinking perhaps a router or cable modem issue. It is odd though, the modem and router work fine on my XP notebook. I will try to download files from my XP notebook and install them on my desktop/notebook vista machine.

My router could be the flaky one.

It is odd that some programs download fine and others are borked.

Downloaded from XP notebook onto flash drive. SAME problem with creative x-fi and nvidia drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Matthias99!

My rangemax WPN824 v2 wireless router is the culprit. Direct connect to modem and drivers install without a hitch.

Netgear doesn't state an incompatibility. HMMM
