Something that is most likely contributing to it though is exactly what I mentioned above. The need to be 'first'. This has always been an issue with news outlets, but it is most likely worse today because of the internet. They no longer have a window to be first. Once it gets on the internet, it spreads. They either have to report on that news item, or fall behind. This is a perfect example of where waiting might have been beneficial - but at the same time, let's assume the full video never surfaced. The context wouldn't have changed and all we would have had was the word of the people who were there, who all have their own motivations (in our view) to lie to meet their agenda. You end up with everyone still saying everyone else is lying. At least, in some scenarios.

Thats it. Fin. Now it's report the story (with edits to fit their agenda) and then cite their personal media opinions of it.
