I've sampled Crysis 2 and HomeFront and they both seem pretty fun...

Are either perfect? No, but what game is?

These are GAMES, not real life documentaries. For me at least, they are mostly mindless escapes FROM reality...

I have seen this kinda of...snobbish...attitude develop in many hobbies. Take watches, people first start collecting watches cause they just think they are cool. Then they learn more about movements and brands and where and how they are sold then all the sudden they get so much more CRITICAL of the watches. Now instead of just enjoying the WATCH, seemingly more and more time is dedicated to looking at what might be wrong with a watch as opposed to what is RIGHT...

Maybe we should all just enjoy gaming a bit more and understand that a game is probably not going to meet EVERY expectation that we have but for the most part, it is a fun experience...

Sorry but unless you post something about all games being rubbish thanks to the dumbing down effect of consolisation of games that don't use DX11, 32x AA and 45 layers of anisotropic lighting I am going to report your post for being in the wrong forum.

I just started playing MW2, and dedicated servers aside, its a damn fun game. I'm probably one of the 4 people that enjoyed Kane and Lynch. Was it perfect, no, but good enough. I've actually started to tune out reviews and just watch some gameplay to see if it'll appeal to me.

So everyone that doesn't like a game that you like is snobbish.

This is all stemming from the recent flood of negativity about Crysis 2 from PC gamers. I for one did not buy MW2 because I am a PC gaming snob.

Being a PC gaming snob I can tell you that Crysis 2 is a great game.

Games can be decent without being exceptional. It's so weird that I even have to say something stupid like that... Why can't people be critical of games that aren't perfect? It's not snobbish; it's looking at the reality of it. You're why reviewers can get away with listing a ton of flaws in a game and then give it a 9/10 or not even mention everything that's wrong with a game just gold star it so they can get their ad revenue.

Who are you replying to? If it is the OP then you have missed his point completely.

Meh, some people like to discuss the finer points of games, just as they do with films, books, etc.

I discuss films all the time and will point out flaws along with strengths; it does not mean I hate a particular film necessarily if I point out some of its flaws, it just means I want to discuss it and maybe think it could have been improved by doing a few things different. What the heck is wrong with that?

Just because you critique something it does not automatically mean that you hate it.

Yep. I don't think a game ever got more shit than MW2. Some idiot even made some "Modern Warfail" site.

It's not perfect, and the biggest problem is lack of dedicated servers. But I'm in NY state and I can pretty much always jump into a good game. I think I got like 130 hours into it. It's a great game!

Same with Crysis 2. I'm having a ton of fun in the campaign, and the MP should be great since I liked the demo.

It's just the way of hte internet, any discerning individual can see who's legitimately critiquing a game and who's not.

Well duh... they're games. It doesn't mean you have to mindlessly enjoy all of them. I bought and played Homefront, and I think it's complete crap. Am a snobbish "critic" because I don't like the game? :\

No offense, but you seem kind of naive.

Didn't you mention in another thread how thrilled you were to be taking screenshots on your new computer, because you've never done that before, and you "just got back into gaming recently".

That's fine and all, but for the folks who have been with the hobby for longer, or at least who have been playing games consistently longer, they're likely to be much more jaded by games in general, and therefore critical of them, because they've seen and played the same basic game for years. Whereas someone new to the hobby will be much more impressed because, well, it's mostly new to them.
That doesn't make them "snobby" per se.

While I agree with the OP 100% you still can't deny that consoles (or maybe budgets) has had the effect of streamlining on PC games. This doesn't necessarily make them bad, but some game could just be better then what they are.

Since you seem to not mind paying $60.oo a pop for crappy console ports maybe you wouldn't mind throwing some of that cash my way.

PC gamers tend to play just a few games on expensive rigs. It's quality that matters to them rather then quantity. If I wanted cheap thrills I'd buy a gameboy.

As others have mentioned, Steam sales have changed that. I now have tons of games that I own but have never even played. Many others are in the same situation.

As for the cost of a game, I spend $70 just for 4 hours of golf most weekends in the summer. I spend typically around $35 most nights at a bar for only 2 hours. I got 175 hours out of Modern Warfare 2. By these hourly projections, MW2 was worth over $2,600 to me. $60 seems like an absolute steal in that regard.

I've been gaming since the original DOOM so while I took a break, I'm hardly a newb. But I do realize it's human nature to be more vocal about what is wrong more often that what is right; it's why people rubberneck, watch NASCAR (for the crashes), and send in complaint letters more than "thank you" letters...

I'm sure Paris Hilton thinks a $10,000.oo rig is cost a good dinner and your $300.oo a week on golf and drinks is what the poor people do for fun.

So the $10 extra really gets to you? Thank god I DO have some decent money coming in, cuz if $10 was enough to make me angry I must have one pathetic fucking excuse for a living.

I believe that all the developers have people scrolling these forums for "suggestions from folksy farm wisdom". If there's no critic there's little or no improvement for the future titles. Positive comments simply make them feel comfortable. I would welcome criticism rather than a$$ lick comments any day as every kick in the butt is a step ahead.

Plus people are genuinely disappointed when paying 60$ for a crap game play, especially given the marketing nowadays.

Can't count past ten all the way to sixty? Here's a hint, get two friends together and then count everyone's fingers and toes.

Playing the FEAR 2 demo turned me into a bitter gaming cynic. It was a HUGE step back from a great game to mediocrity, in the name of consoles.

I'll always find gaming fun where I can, but until a company steps up and fills that PC-centric void that's out there I ain't gonna change.
