Originally there was a requirement that the exact oath as enumerated in Article II, Section I, Clause 8 be said before a president could become president.

However, this has been superceded via the 20th Amendment which states that the prior president's term automatically expires at 12:00 noon on January 20th and the new president's term begins immediately thereafter.

Well, you have to keep in mind that after Dick Cheney, the role of the VP is somewhat up for debate. Biden doesn't want to be a dick like...well....Cheney, but he does have to strike the proper balance to serve the administration. I'm guessing that is the "look at me!" stage as opposed to the two extremes of being Darth Vader and hanging around at funerals. Remember, Biden probably still has POTUS ambition in him, so he wants to keep a spot on the national stage...

Unlikely, he would be 74 when elected in 2016. Anything else and he is made POTUS anyway and has his national stage then.

Just found out we share the same birthday too.. neat.

he chose Biden, of all people, it cant possibly be unexpected. Obama should get a shock collar to strap to the VPs leg and keep a remote handy.

supposely, biden's wife let it slip that obama offer biden the vp spot or the sos spot very early, and hilary was never in contention unless biden turns down vp spot.

Leno just had a piece on how bad the chemistry is between obama and biden when they are together. He referred to Biden as the uncle who had too much to drink.
