bahbahbooey, I know who you are (although I have no proof) and I find it pathetic that even after you were banned you still come back to troll my thread.

To adress you,
1. I am a powerlifter, I am not a bodybuilder, I try to lift the maxmimum amount of weight possible. I NEED to eat a lot. I probably have more muscle in my one leg than your body. My weight also helps me squat 700+, wide base, more weight. I can easily gain or lose weight because I have my diet down to a science.

2. Nowhere have I told people to follow what I do, beleive it or not but I know what people want to do for any goals, be it bbing, pling, or fitness. That includes running also. I am also a rep for Gaspari Nutrition, so I know more about body building and every single fricken steroid PH supplement you name it for the most part, and know the science behind them. I know exercises, how to get the best form, how to maximize your goals. If you want to discuss what your advice to someone would be, go ahead, but I actually know what I am talking about.

3. LOL

4. Kindly stfu.

5. Here is the vid for those who are interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2Rfd_tK6fU That was back in last March, my PR is now 515 RAW, 585 Double Ply shirted.

ever use NO-Xplode?

Absolutely, and I love it.

good to take along with protein?

i was actually thinking about adding NO pre-workout, a protein shake after workout, and my creatine (i use ast microionized) later on in the day.

would you recommend NO along with creatine?

It is more of a Caffeine B12 energy supplement than a NO supplement (which are scams and do not work anyway), but yup it works great with creatine.

So mixing protein with milk for an after workout shake is a bad idea because it will slow it down?

Exactly, and you want to protein to get to your muscles as soon as possible.

The information he gave is correct, regardless of what he looks like. His information applies to anyone trying to gain muscle and reduce fat, not just body builders. Troll elsewhere...

There are many people who have a hard time gaining muscle, and his advice certainly isnt overcomplicating anything. The bottom line is to eat protein, and hes just explaining different types, which many people are unsure about.

oh, and back on topic, where can I buy steel cut oats? I have looked at some grocery stores around me and all I can find are quaker oats.

Try the health section of the local Shop Rite, or whole foods or a place like that. You can also buy them by the tub online. Quaker oats (plain) are fine, they are still oats, rolled oats, which makes them harder to eat, but if you do not mind it then you will get the same benefits of steel cut.

Hey SVT thanks for the advice. I'm wondering if you could dole out some more for someone who's looking to gain more muscle and tone. A bit of background. I'm Indian (the asian kind), 6'0" and about 203 (varies by +/- 2lbs) and am vegetarian (I eat eggs and dairy, no meat no fish). I go lifting at least 3 days a week (Day 1: Biceps/Triceps/Forearms/Calves, Day2: Chest/Shoulders/Back, Day3: Legs/Legs/Legs). I've been lifting 2-3 months and I find i've already hit a bit of a wall. I can't straight bench more than 185 (by bench I mean 1 good set x 10 reps). My chest routine is usually: 4x10 on the bench (maximize weight), 4x10 incline dumbbells, 4x10, 3x10 dumbbell fly, 4x10 cable crossover. Usually I rapidly have to decrease weight after the incline dumbbells. I have a couple of questions:

1) Any nutrition/lifting suggestions to get my flat bench to at least 220lbs (1setx10reps)? I have pretty broad shoulders and I'm pretty satisfied with my arms, just not my chest. As far as nutrition, I'm trying a new diet where I eat fruits and protein shake for breakfast, salad and protein shake for lunch, protein shake for after workout and a very light dinner. I've only been doing it for a week so i'm not sure whether it's doing anything.

2) Unfortunately, I inherited a pretty common Indian genetic trait known as chicken legs. My calves, especially, are much thinner than average for my size. Ironically, I can easily do (what I think) are decent seated calf presses (4x 12 at about 115 lbs) and I can do a good set of leg presses at >500lbs. I know it's not too impressive for power-lifting but as far as I can tell it's better than average for a casual lifter. Only problem is my calves just don't seem to get too much larger. Once again, any suggestions on how I can improve this? FYI, my lifting scheme is: 4x12 seated calf press, 4x12 standing calf press, 4x12 seated incline calf press machine (don't know the name of this one. It's the machine where you're seated but your legs are straight and angled downward).

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm more than happy to receive any advice from people who've done this much longer than I have. As I mentioned, my target goal isn't necessarily power-lifting but I definitely want to get slightly bigger and a lot more cut. As of right now, my chest and legs are definitely lagging behind and I suspect either a) I'm doing something wrong or b) My genetics will only let me go so far . I'm definitely hoping it's just a.

P.S. To bahbabooey: You're an idiot. Some people lift for the sheer strength, others lift to get cut. SVT is obviously of the former category and he seems to be doing pretty damn well at it.

Hey SVT, great thread!

1. So, you don't suggest mixing protein with milk for an after-workout shake. What else would you suggest? I've got a tub of mint chocolate, so fruit juices aren't really an option. I'd be mixing it with skim milk.

2. Is there any downside to mixing one serving of creatine with a protein shake?

anyone know of any "tasteless" protein powder? I saw there is something called "Any Whey" but don't know how good it is, or how tasteless it really is. Any suggestions?

You can do cardio every day but if you are still consuming more calories than you burn through the cardio and other activities, then you can still gain weight.

For a lifter in a bulking phase, you can do cardio and still gain weight provided you are eating enough.

The cardio is still good for overall health though.

1. Nope do not mix it with milk. Mix it with good old plain water. Skim milk still contains the same slow acting proteins.

2. Depends on the type of creatine, some Ethyl Ester's require an empty stomach, some mono's do not. What brand do you have? But, you are probably fine.

Any Whey is the only good non chalky tasteless protein. Why would you need one though? You will probably taste some stuff when just mixed alone with water, but if you ad in other things you will not taste it.

A couple questions.

1. What do you think about Creatine?

2. If you think it's worth it, do I have to take creatine with something that contains glucose. I was looking at Protein powder, and it said to mix with juice or something with glucose, I'd rather just mix it with water. But if it's not gonna work with just water, I'll just skip taking creating.

3. What websites or books do you recommend for something starting out weightlifting? I don't want to become a body builder or power lifer, I just want to get in shape, and lose about 25lbs of fat while adding 10 or so lbs of muscle.

Creatine should be used by anyone who wants to build lean muscle.

No most types of creatine do not now require an insulin spike to be absorbed, so you can mix it with water. Also there would be no need for protein powder to be muxed with glucose.

There are though other reasons to supplement with glucose as your body needs simple carbs before your workout for energy, and after to replenish.

I would just read around on bodybuilding.com, there are many great sections of the forum that deal with nonbb'er topics, such as yours of fitness and well-being.

SVT, the guys giving you a hard time obviously do not understand the idea of being
"sport specific".

That video is very impressive and I can tell you are proud of it, as you should be.

Your body type would not work for me, as a wrestler, but I respect the the work you put in. Good job man!

Very informative. I recently started working out again.

I am curious though, I worked out last year with machine weights, got up tp 220 on bench press.
Now on the free weights I can barely lift 120, I cant hold it steady it seems. I just started last month and the bench is rather small and narrow. I feel unbalanced on it. Do you think I need a newer style bench? And is the difference between machine and free weights that huge?
