hmmm I see, which is more advantageous?
Varies. Sometimes you get a different design because the manufacturer is trying to save money, sometimes you get a different design because it offers better or quieter cooling, sometimes you get a different design because it looks cooler.
The twin fan HS designs have better cooling, generally (although I have an EVGA card, so I can tell you the reference is more than adequate, although that fan gets pretty loud if you crank it up. You don't actually have to if you have adequate airflow in your case, though), but I'd take a reference design and EVGA's warranty over that any day of the week. On the flip side, if you look at the 570, here and here, what you've got is one card using Nvidia's reference design for the cooler, and one using the 560ti cooler, effectively. You save $15 by taking the cheaper cooler, but the difference is the blower on the 570 reference will push all that warm air straight out of your case, with the 560ti half of it gets exhausted into the case. Which is better? That's a value judgement for whoever's buying the card.
So are you saying a reference design is a "well they made the original card but we tweaked, added, took away some things and this is what we came up with, for better or worse"?
Well, I'm saying the reference design is before manufacturers tweaked, or more than tweaked.

mmaestro, do you think I would regret buying the 560Ti and not the 570? the main games I will be playing are WOW, starcraft II, the old republic, maybe some FPS. I will play like MWF and BF on XBOX along with most games.

Well of course, but then again would someone regret buying the 570 and not the 580? Its just more cash to more performance, however the price/performance drops getting above a 570.

I think a 560 ti is more than efficient except for improving the FPS of your e-peen

I would say find out what games and what resolution he is playing at before recommending random upgrades

I work with and pretty much live with him. I know exactly what he will be playing. Hell, if I went with that, I'll sell you my GTX 260 lol.

Its not a "random" upgrade, as the 560 ti and 570 are the top recommended nVidia cards to boot. Its all about the money with performance.

Well, more is usually better. I've found my 560Ti to be more than adequate for what I do, which is mostly Civilization V. I got the FPB version which is clocked to 850Mhz (822Mhz is reference), and when I'm gaming I usually OC to 920Mhz which is the most the card seems stable at without boosting the voltage (which I haven't done mostly due to laziness) which does make a bit of a difference but, TBH, if I hadn't done so I don't think I'd be less happy. I think if you've got the extra $70 or $80 for the 570, go for it, but if you'd rather spend that on something else, you'll be happy. It doesn't look like you're playing the most taxing stuff, so that's probably another point in favor of the 560Ti. Assuming your board does SLI, if you ever find it's inadequate, you can just splurge for another one, and by that point it'll probably have gotten cheaper (that's my plan).

Well said, Im with you on that...im looking at putting that money towards the ASUS P8Z68 Pro so I have the option of SLI in the future. What mobo/cpu are you using with your setup?

Well, right now "none" because it's just been mailed off for service (bad VRM, which took forever to figure out), but an Asus P8P67 Pro, i7 2600K when I actually have them. It screams. Just ridiculous, probably overkill for what I needed, but it's nice to have and play around with. I do love the board and options, it's really nice to work with, but it's the second time I've had to RMA the board, which is kind of getting old, especially as they'll only let you cross ship once, which I did the first time, so it'll be another 2-3 weeks before I'm back up and running.

FWIW, before I scare you off Asus, I have 2 colleagues with 3 other 1155 boards between them, and none have had any problems, so I guess I'm just unlucky or the P8P67 Pro was a bit of a lemon, for some reason.

This is very OT, but dude, i think im just going to live on base when we get back.

Stuart Mesa was giving us $400 a month back living there. If they still have deals like that then I could get a 3 bed 2 bath house fully covered for around $1500 a month. If you still wanna crash at my place itll be freeeeee.
