eVGA 7800gxt or 7800gt?

newegg has a good deal (at least from what I can tell) on buying either a 7800gt or 7800gxt and getting a SLI motherboard for free. 7800gt combo sells for 449 and the 7800gxt for 559, so basically I am looking at $100.00 difference between a gt and gxt.
Is the 100 going to make a difference?
benchmarks say yes but only at very high resolutions.
Anyone have some real life experience to help me decide?

BTW. My monitor is a Viewsonic 19n, so my resolution is 1280 x 1024.
and I am planning on getting a 3000 venice for some overclocking and later get dual core.

If you're only running at 12X10, stick with the 7800GT. The 7800GTX would be a waste of a good card.

thanks, that is what I was thinking. I might later get one of those uber dells, but not for awhile. I am upgrading from a 9800pro AIW so I should see some good increase in framerates.

9800 is higher than 7800 = 9800 is better

well if u look at the review, an OCed GT is pretty much just as good as a gtx even on 16x12

But then you OC the gtx to those speeds (Which is just as easy)... 9000 in 05

At 1280x1024 the 7800GT is the way to go, 7800GTX is for ppl who want 1600x1200+

At 1280x1024 the 7800GT is the way to go, 7800GTX is for ppl who want 1600x1200+

I'm selling my x800xl soon to buy a 7800GT, 40 fps average in BF2 at max settings = no thnx, I'd rather have 99fps , I hate when I get hit by missles and my fps drops hard and lag time . Or perhaps 2GB will fix it?

Yes but I can only have one, university starts on thursday so my last two shifts at job are friday and saturday...then I have to quit after that I will only have $400 canadian which is only enough for either sell the x800xl and get 7800GT or stick with x800xl and buy 2x1gb OCZ platinum ram.

ya, my x800xl is for sale on ebay, hope to get a 7800GT when it sells

i play at 1280 x 1024 also, so the GTX is not really needed (in my case)

HEAT is a concern of mine. I currently have a 6800GT SLI rig..it survives fine for 3-4 hours of heavy duty gaming but my room goes up to 86 Fahrenheit. When I quit, if I leave the PC on for longer, and come back - now we're talking 5-6 hours, I have a freeze. I've done lots of experimenting, and I do believe it's heat related. I think an 86 degree room is an indication that there's lots of heat pumping out. I can't get the room any cooler as the rest of the house is an icebox...anyway, if I go with a 7800 GTX KO, will there still be too much heat? How about 7800 GTX KO SLI??
