you might beable to get a 8800gts 320mb for $250.00 after all is said and done, if you buy the 7900gs and do the step-up to a 8800gts 320mb.

i did the step-up also from a 6800 agp 128mb to 7900gt and had a $150.00 rebate, that i got full credit for on the 7900gt purchase.

but there is no guarentee they would honor the full $189.99 price, there are a lot of cost you have to figure into the step-up process.

shipping you card to EVGA and shipping for the new card will cost you $20.00 total if you use FEDEX ground.

here is how i got $250.00

189.99 + $8.00 shipping + step-up to 8800gts $110.00 + shipping $11.00 + $9.00 = 328.00 - $80.00 rebate equals around $250.00 for a 8800GTS 320MB, after a lot of work and maybe haveing to wait a few months

but just like i had to wait for the 7900gt to come back in stock, you will have to wait maybe months before the 8800GTs is available on the EVGA site again.

considering you can get a 8800gts 320mb for about $275.00 right now, it is not worth the hassle or risk they might not give you full credit on the 7900gs toward the 8800GTS, and waiting weeks or even months for the 8800gts to come back in stock.

Mine came in today, so I installed a pci-e motherboard and the card.

Haven't played with nvidia cards in a long while, but I did remember the "cool bits" thing .

It said the card was running at 500mhz core and 1.32ghz memory.

Saw a button to detect optimized settings, hit it and it came up with 550 mhz core and 1.47ghz memory.

Does it usually go on the safe side??

Are there any utility's that will display the gpu temp in a window on a second display??

That would really help in getting these new parts set up.

I pullled the trigger tonight!

Great deal to tide things over until some future day then move up to DX10. Don't need that for quite a while.

Maybe I'll go back & buy a 2nd one & SLI them.

nope no benefit, SLi is for gaming, i have never heard of it working with anything else.

and this has to be the best deal for a video card avaible right now, and 2 of these in SLi with a little overclocking would perform very well, with the only thing holding them back is the fact they only have 256mb of ram, so at high res like 1600 x 1200 they would lose to a single 7900gtx, while they would crush it at 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024.

unless you are on a big screen like 20" or bigger, 1 or 2 of these cards should be game very well for $110.00 or $220.00 for 2.

I would order one, but i already have a 7800gt, and a 7900gto.

I wonder if my friend would be interested in that card. He is actually running the same one in his desktop now and could use a 2nd one for sli.

Pulled the trigger and bought it. I hope they don't have too long of a backorder, but I'm in no hurry.

Does EVGA honor the original price tag for their step-up program? (with rebates, that is)

Yes. They should give you $180 step-up credit for this card. They didn't consider the rebate in my step-up. Pretty sweet deal IMHO.

from their faqs on step-up.

Q: How much is Step-Up?
A: The Step-Up? Program is free; you are required to pay the difference between your original invoice price, less any applicable rebates, and the price of the new card, plus any applicable tax and shipping. The program itself has no cost associated with it.

OK, you guys are confusing me.. So in this case, will EVGA honor $180 or $100 for this card if one wants the Step-Up?
They will give you 180 and if you used the rebate -80$ rebate.

I looked around the Fry's/outpost site and didn't find anything that said "Print Sales Receipt", So I am thinking of using in the email order confirmation as the sales receipt for the rebate...

Or did I miss something???

RE: receipt at fry's site for rebate. I use original packing slip and never hav had a problem. If they don't send packing slip, you can email them and they will quickly snailmail you a proof of purchase reciept.

Ugh... backordered. Does the order date count for when you order it online or when it is charged and shipped?

Just use the ATITool artifact test to see what kind of temps you get up to under full load. I got mine up to 605/840 with a Zalman vf900-Cu...thats as high as I can get it without artifacts, and they aren't due to heat since the card isn't even getting out of the low 50s. I'll probably be doing a volt mod to it soon.

Thanks For the Info!

I uninstalled ATItool before I installed the nvidia card thinking it may cause conflicts..

Now when I re-installed it and try to run it ,it gives errors...

meh, I don't think I really need to overclock it yet anyway.. as I am running a socket 754 A64 @ 2.7. I tried battlefield 2142 last night at 1152x864, then the highest resolution list in the game (1600x1200 ?) and the frame-rates were the same ..

but they were plenty high enough for me!!

Can anyone answer this? I got a email saying my order is backordered also. I don't know if I can get the deal or not. Which in that case I would have to cancel this order........

I got "ATI tool " to work.< Edit ,No I didn't Obvious artifacts not detected>

I used riva tuner instead, set the core @610 Memory @850 and let 3dmark06 run thru.

No obvious problems.

Moral I was trying to get to, these do seem to overclock pretty well..

They usually date the receipt to when you ordered it, but if you don't get it in time to mail it in, you won't get the rebate.

Mines was 7900GS KO like others and it's much quieter than my evga 7900GT.

Good news people who have backorder~ Don't cancel. I got a response from their backorder rep and it appears that they'll be back in stock tomorrow 3/6. Assuming it'll take a week or so afterward and considering the rebate doesn't expire until 03/29. You good.
