I recently got the evga 7900gt CO from newegg and it works great. However, some people's reviews on newegg said their card was clocked incorrectly (Default values rather than the 500/1500 overclock):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRatingReview.asp?Item=N82E16814130281

Mine appeared to right after looking at coolbits, as it was 500/750(1500) but I was using the nvidia beta drivers (84.20).

So my question is:

1. Does anyone else who purchased this exact card have (or not have) this issue?
2. Please specify which driver sets were used.
3. Are the clockspeeds of manufacturor overclocks set at the bios or driver level? I'm wondering if the evga drivers just detected wrong.

Clocks are set at the bios level . . .

The clock speeds are set at the bios level. Those who recieved incorrect clocks can ge a BIOS file from eVGA which will update the card to the correct speed

So my other question is, can coolbits readings be incorrect? Just curious if these beta nvidia drivers I'm using are showing the correct speeds, after discovering some people seeing the problem.

Is there another program I can use to check the clock speeds? My old version of Everest doesn't recognize anything with this gpu.

I pulled my eVGA 7800GT and put in the N563 7900GT CO with the 84.20 beta drivers installed. After it redetected the card and monitor drivers, I reloaded CoolBits 2 and went to OC it. It was reading 500/750 and Detect Optimal Frequencies came up with 554/863 which gives a ~20% improvement in games and benches I tested. I can't wait to SLI.

While it appears there was a manufacturing snafu, eVGA is living up to their stellar customer support reputation by providing a BIOS flash that fixes users up without needing to RMA their cards. The crybabies slamming the card with one egg reviews probably burst into tears and pee their pants if their Big Mac doesn't look like the picture on the menu, too.

Unlike EA, which just officially announced that NFS:MW buyers are not going to get a patch for their broken software, eVGA has done right by their customers.

My card comes to the exact same clocks when I used coolbits. I can up it to 575/1800 no problems. I am looking forward to getting better cooling on this thing and see where I can go with it!

Thanks, I just had a look at the release notes, better performance in FEAR with AA seems like the only relevant change.

hrm....funny i seen this. my card went to stock gt levels, so i thought nothing of it and thought that because i wasnt using evga's drivers, the nvidia drivers didnt know to over clock it so i just did it myself.

is this why i cant get past 800mhz for the ram? its clocked at 555mhz/800(1600mhz) but the ram is at its max.

YES!!!!
Better IQ, better performance. (probably some of the best IQ from nvidia along with good performance)

Edit: Glad to see the card I'm going to get has some nice overclocks (espically with the 1750/1800 on the memory).
Can't wait to see what the thing will do on my water cooling setup.

I just cranked it to 576/1800 and played The Lost Coast. The VST gained a whole .5 fps. w00t!

50C at idle; 68-71C under load.

Just go to their website and download the bios. You have to register the card first.
Then go to downloads, video cards, then bios updates. (if your looking for a bios, didn't understand your question).

If your looking for drivers, I would recommend the xtream-g 84.20's from here.

Then just OC yourself. I'm sure you could probably overclock it to beyond the factory clocks that it should be at.

After reading this thread I decided to load coolbits and look at my clocks. Mine is the 79900gt CO 500/1500 stock, coolbits shows 450/660 I'm headed over to eVGA for a bios update. I'll let you know what happens.
