Don't think you'd wanna try to "step up" to the gs as it will be a slower card.

can someone explain to me just how the stepup program for evga works? I'll probably get this card now if i can step up to the 7950gt within 3 months. Also...is this one of the 7900GT's that had all those problems? and if so do u guys think all the problems are fixed since its been recertified? thanks!

Go to eVGA site for mode details. These refurbs are very questionable at best. Chances of getting it to boot are 50/50 then chances of getting artifacts in game are another 50/50. I'd recommend to stay away from it. The only good thing is buy it then do a step-up later. YMMV and my 2 cents.

I had a couple of their 7900gts that they replaced with recertified cards. They were the first card maker to admit a problem. It was because of a design flaw in the original design of the reference card base from Nvidia. All card makers use the basic reference card design. They were the only card maker to cross ship the revised cards and generally provided superior service to the other card makers. The 7900's received some major changes that solved the problem in the original Nvidai design. If you think they are so bad why would you want to step-up to one of their other cards? Evga has a well deserved reputation as one of, if not the, most respected card vendor. Care to offer any reasoning behind your statements?

Let me set the record straight.
In fact it's just the opposite. eVGA has always been my #1 choice as comes to video card purchase. My current card, a 7900GTX which was from the original batch has been working flawlessly.
Most recent experience, I purchased another 7900GT (p/n N584-AR) which I thought the new batch may have been all fixed up but to my dismay the card showed artifacts and freezes and BSOD after two days of usage and back it camewhere I'd purchased.
The freeze was so bad it corrupted and caused wreck havoc in one of my hdd's that a sytem restore was deemed neccessary. That being said, I'd only recommend to buy it just in case things do not work out you may use it as step-up to something other than the 7900gt if one thinks this deal is too good to pass up.
Keyword I used in my last post "YMMV" could translate as ..Not everyone experiences the same problem because I knew my 7900gtx didn't and hasn
[/You said there was only a 50/50 chance of one of these cards even booting. That is stupid. Even the one example you had booted! Don't make ignorant comments if you want to be taken seriously.
