Not bad for a $280ish card. Recertified from the manufacturer too!

How does the new 7900gs perform as compared to the 7900gt or even gtx?

You can buy the refurb card now and step-up to the 7900gs or even 7950 later on as long as you're within 90days of the invoice period.

can someone explain to me just how the stepup program for evga works? I'll probably get this card now if i can step up to the 7950gt within 3 months. Also...is this one of the 7900GT's that had all those problems? and if so do u guys think all the problems are fixed since its been recertified? thanks!

GS for nVidia has always usually meant that it's a cheapo compared to the flagship version it's been stripped from.

good find op

Go to eVGA site for mode details. These refurbs are very questionable at best. Chances of getting it to boot are 50/50 then chances of getting artifacts in game are another 50/50. I'd recommend to stay away from it. The only good thing is buy it then do a step-up later. YMMV and my 2 cents.

You must have a very low opinion of Evga if you think there is only a 50/50 chance of a factory recertified card even booting! I had a couple of their 7900gts that they replaced with recertified cards. They were the first card maker to admit a problem. It was because of a design flaw in the original design of the reference card base from Nvidia. All card makers use the basic reference card design. They were the only card maker to cross ship the revised cards and generally provided superior service to the other card makers. The 7900's received some major changes that solved the problem in the original Nvidai design. If you think they are so bad why would you want to step-up to one of their other cards? Evga has a well deserved reputation as one of, if not the, most respected card vendor. Care to offer any reasoning behind your statements?

most of the cards in question were ones that were factory oc'ed out of the box. People still don't like to do their homework I see.

And isn't the GS, the agp versions of the faster pci-e cards? Who would "upgrade" to a slower card that is a different format?

Good deal though, If i didnt have such a great xfxs 7800gt than i would think about upgrading to this.

Wow, do the math, this card x 2 = 7950GTX2 for only $410. (Well with a little OCin and SLI board) Slap in a Zalman/Artic VGA cooler and your good to go IMO.

I'll chime in to support EVGA. I got one of the bad 7900GT's, and the cross-ship RMA was as easy as can be. New card is stable. Plus, the prepaid label was a UPS GROUND Return Service label, meaning you could drop it in one of those mailboxes that normally don't accept any ground shipments.

Let me set the record straight.
In fact it's just the opposite. eVGA has always been my #1 choice as comes to video card purchase. My current card, a 7900GTX which was from the original batch has been working flawlessly.
Most recent experience, I purchased another 7900GT (p/n N584-AR) which I thought the new batch may have been all fixed up but to my dismay the card showed artifacts and freezes and BSOD after two days of usage and back it camewhere I'd purchased.
The freeze was so bad it corrupted and caused wreck havoc in one of my hdd's that a sytem restore was deemed neccessary. That being said, I'd only recommend to buy it just in case things do not work out you may use it as step-up to something other than the 7900gt if one thinks this deal is too good to pass up.
Keyword I used in my last post "YMMV" could translate as ..Not everyone experiences the same problem because I knew my 7900gtx didn't and hasn't

[/You said there was only a 50/50 chance of one of these cards even booting. That is stupid. Even the one example you had booted! Don't make ignorant comments if you want to be taken seriously.

I hope eVGA must be paying you for this.
Dude, apparently you had no idea the 7900 fiasco eVGA had invented for itself in the past couple months and if you didn't have to go through the pain like many of us did to deal with this issue. You then must be the stupid one not to take this issue seriously.
