eVGA 7900GTX vs. Sapphire X1900XTX

The eVGA is about 50 bucks more than the sapphire. Worth the difference? I woned a geforce in the past and loved it. My last card was a radeon and it didn't do so great for what I payed for it. I want the eVGA but noticed the sapphire was way cheaper, suggestions?

Thank you all for the interesting dicussion about the 7900GTX and the X1900XT/X. Out of all the computer components I have been deciding on, this is the most difficult, and thanks for the help. After reading a billion posts I have come to this conclusion: it is not the best time to build a computer or buy a video card rather (even though I will build one anyway). The 7900GTX are overpriced and don't have AA + HDR capabilities. They are quiet though and produce quality frames. The X1900XT/X has AA + HDR and runs more frames per second. But it is loud and very hot and you have to buy a zalman to cool/quiet it down. Seems to me, the techology within the games are so rapidly evolving, that the video cards at the moment haven't caught up and are unorganized. Seems to me you should buy an older card, like the 1800XT or 7900GT and save 200 bucks, and then upgrade in a year when they get their act together. That is all for now. Thanks again.

No. Well, it depends on if you're looking at SLI/Crossfire in the future (which IMO isn't worth it either). The X1900XTX performs better in some games, anyway.

EDIT: OEM generally means you get the card itself and maybe some cables. Retail means you get the box, manual, CDs, cables, etc. in addition to the card.

If I buy an ASUS A8N32-SLI mobo, can I stil buy a X1900XTX and run it properly? My eye has been on this borad even though I don't really care about SLI right now. I hear it's a very nice board.

Yes. You just can't use two of them in Crossfire mode.

X1900XTX=faster&better IQ. Loud on full speed
7900GTX=quieter&cooler.

You could buy a Accellero X2 for the X1900XTX but you are going to oc right? if not get the XT. It's not worth thr price difference.

If you don't go SLI, is an ASUS mobo still the way to go (I like the ASUS design)? What are other comparable boards?

What combo is better: A8N32 SLI deluxe and X1900XT
A8R32-MVP deluxe with same card

I really had decided on the A8N with the eVGA 7900GTX but now I'm thinking no SLI but I like the mobo features. A8N and XT save me money.

The X1900XT is much faster at high resolutions when compaired to the nVIDIA counterpart. And, the performace differance between the x1900xt an the x1900xtx is almost unnoticeable. Only your pocket book will notice the differace between the X1900XT and x1900xtx.

X1900XT is a better card than the 7900GT but it matters on what your going to use your computer for mostly gaming right? what res do you want to run and what settings? is what we really should be asking.

X1900 XT is almost as fast as an XTX so if you're looking for the best bang for the buck card, X1900 XT is the way to go.

If you care about noise i would go with the EVGA 7900GT CO. Single slot, copper heat sink, covers the ram as well compared to the noise stock cooler.

Consumes less power (roughly 3 times less than the X1900Xt), heat is no problem. (the X1900XT is a hot chip and OCing it without a better cooler than the stock isnt a good idea).

But its 15% slower than the X1900XT as high res AA/AF (16x12)
IQ is roughly the same, with ATi having the edge with HQ AF and HDR plus AA.
(although NV's HDR and ATi's HDR looks different for some reason)

Similiar Video capabilities with ATi having the edge.

Drivers are pretty equal, but i prefer NV control panel. Easy to use, and doesnt use so much ram like ATi's ccc.

If you are buying A8N32 SLi than go with the NV card. If your buying the A8R32-MVP i suggest you getting the ATi card. This way you have the option of going dual GPU solution hence SLi or Crossfire. But SLi is much more mature than Crossfire althought Crossfire has some of its own advantages against SLi.

Its really up to you.

what about these results? How can the 7900GTX do so much better with only 24 piplines compared to X19000XT 48 pipelines or more (I forget) These results show the geforce in top form and I though the new radeons ran better than the GTXs

I guess now the real question is this:

7900GTX (~530 bucks) worth the less noise but more heat?
X1900XT (~420 bucks) better graphics but runs hot?

I run a X1900XTX w/ my A8N32-SLI Deluxe with no issues.

Go with the X1900XT, and buy a Zalman vf900.Should keep the temps down and make OCing abit easy.
