eVGA 8800GTS 640 TODAY

Ok, my new card is coming today ( less than two hours ) and I need to know what is the BEST driver to run it with. The card is a eVGA 8800GTS. My operating system is XP Pro with SP2....rest of rig in sig. I will not be overclocking this card. Thanks

Edit : I should also mention, that this is my first Nvidia card ever. So any help with it will be greatly appreciated. As in settings, Control Panel etc :

Ok, I just downloaded the 97.92's from eVGA's site. Are these usually stable in XP ? I know im seeming a little picky, but im used to ATI drivers being installed and working properly for months on end.

I know nothing about Nvidia. But here's hoping for a great experience.

Well, you simply don't have a lot of choice with the 8800 drivers right now. I think there are only two official driver releases for the 8800's under XP.

I only started using the 97.92's last night after installing my 8800gtx so have not had much time for testing, but my system did hang during Spellforce 2 - which came with the card.

Otherwise, spent about an hour in f.e.a.r multiplayer and had no problems.

Bottom line is, you probably will run into one or two problems, but hopefully nothing too major.

It's annoying to read through the personal flamewar that is going on between two of the members there, but suffice it to say, it would be nice if all old games worked fine too.

Best bet is to check the 97.92 driver notes and see if there's any major issues with the games you play. Also check out the NV forums and scan for potential problems with games/components that would affect you.

There's still a lot of bugs out there, but for the most part, the drivers are stable.

Ok, the card is now installed. Some of my text is kind of blurry, and some is normal. What would be causing this ? Using 97.92's

Refresh rate possibly or screen resolution. If not either, try the other DVI port.

Are you going to upgrade your monitor? I don't know if you'll see much difference between your old card and new one at 1440x900. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ya, Im gonna upgrade my monitor to a 2407 Dell in a few weeks.

The other DVI port makes the text look great. Thanks vhx. Still doing some tweaking.

I haven't had any driver-related issues at all with the 97.92's. I run Oblivion, BF2, HL2, Far Cry.

Ok. Im now using the other DVI port. and upon booting up, the text was perfect. So I went into Doom 3 for a bit, and came back to desktop, the text was blurry again.

My resolution is 1440 X 900 and the refresh rate is 60. Ive tried refresh rate 75, and get the same results.

Any suggestions ?

Ok, think I figured it out. I googled it, and came up with others with the same problem. They seem to think it is a driver bug with the 8800 series. They state the remedy is to use VGA instead of DVI. Well, I did so, and now the text is fine. Just hope it stays this way.

So far so good. No issues at all. And I can tell a big difference from the 1900GT. Cant wait for the monitor now.

That's excellent. I'm jealous! I would love to have 2 of those in SLI mode but I just upgraded in October, 2006 to 2 512MB BFG GeForce 7950GTs.

My temps are 60 idle, and 72 full load.....Not bad, but would like it to be a little cooler.

hmm.. i'm using dvi and i haven't seen that issue..

hmm.. i'm using dvi and i haven't seen that issue..

I had the problem when I first booted up with the GTS installed. After messing around with it, it was fine. But after gaming, it was blurry again. Now on VGA, its perfect 8)
