No, that is not true!

I measure the total power going into my PSU and it is less than 250W. I will report exactly what it is when I get home tonight.

If the card needed 22A, only the card would be using 22A X 12V = 264W. I know for a fact that is not the case.

The power I measure is the total power entering the PSU. From that power, some of it is dissipated in the PSU (as heat). From the remaining, some of it is used on the 5V rail.
From the remaining, some of it is used by the CPU.
From the remaining, some of it is used by the RAM, the hard drives, the chipset, the motherboard, .......

There is no way, the card alone uses 264W.

Just got my card today. Nice huge fan. Man, I'm thinking I'll have to somehow upgrade my PSU... now how to shoehorn an ATX PSU in the space of an SFX PSU... I'll find a way.

Oh, that is interesting Navid. Maybe the card require much less than 22A

Can you measure the power going into your PSU during heavy gaming? or with 3dmark for 100% CPU load and heavy usage of ram etc?

Can you also say what CPU you are using?

You are measuring power with voltmeter right?

I am very interested in your real power measurements that maybe different from manufacturer Amp requirement

Between this and the 7950GT, which one is a better buy?
In fact, what IS the 7950GT?

Never mind, a bit research turns up that 7950GT is just an overclocked version of 7900GT with 512MB memory.

IMO the 7900GTO is the overall better buy for the following reasons:

- Cheaper by about $50

- Faster clocked core by around 100MHz (??? not positive)

- memory potentially faster (though stock is slower)

- better stock cooler

Reasons the 7950GT is better:

- stock memory speeds are faster

- possible to get factory passively cooled

- possible to get single slot card

eVGA has updated their GTO spec sheet to say 1.1ns RAM.... so now it's "official."
Has anyone figured out if this ram is faster than what the GTX has? If so, the voltmod could have a lot of potential. I know some guys on mvktech have been playing around with it, but they haven't been real clear about posting before and after results.

Until I flashed the GTX bios, I could not do anything above 710 in mem, so mem voltage increase due to bios worked and I am now happy at 800mem.

sorry if I missed this in a previous post, but which BIOS did you flash to? Modified GTO, or actual GTX?

I was under the impression that the memory voltage is not controlled by the BIOS, but by a resistor. Hence the flash will not increase voltage, only loosen up timings.

I think this is correct. Hence the need for the vmod on the 7900s.

Has anyone received a card from Tiger Direct yet? I went with ground and won't see mine till Thursday.
Just curious if the TD cards have GTX boxes, and how they're overclocking.

$239.99 shipped, wow, that's HOT!
BTW, eVGA tech support has told me the GTO does not share the same gpu and GDR3 ram part spec as the GTX.
That seems to verify my theory. The GTO's memory could only go up to 825 stable, anything beyond that sweet spot, artifacts or freeze in 3dmark06. Mine has been running very stable @ 691/800 since last Friday.

Hey Just to let everyone know I got mine that I ordered from the egg today, I paid $245.99 (grr why does this always happen) It came in a GTO box, no sticker over gtx It scored 10250 out of the box in 3dmark05, I don't have 06' because I have dial up and that's to much to download. It is super quiet, compared to my 7600gt's I had before in SLI, even though the 7600GT's beat it buy 1000 points I?m keeping it just because my computer is so silent now!

Too bad, I just bought a 7600gt from mwave for $109 (ar) to replace the 6800 that died in my son's dell 4700. Otherwise I could take one off your hands.
My GTO has a "GTO" sticker on top of the GTX. I thin finally eVGA has received the genuine GTO boxes from one of its suppliers.

I got mine yesterday (10-11-06) and it has a true GTO box.

Got mine today from ZZF, no GTO stickers. Looks like the real box. Haven't tested it yet. Probably won't until the end of the weekend.

While I can understand why he might say that about the GDDR3, even if it is rated at 1.1ns on both cards, since the respective voltage and programmed latencies apparently differ. But I find his statement about there being different GPUs nothing short of bizarre. Both cards use a G71. Where is the difference?

Update: I was able to raise the memory to 800 no problem, now it scores 11305, I'm very happy with my purchase. I would recommend this card to anyone.

GTO and GTX have identical GPU and RAM modules, the only difference is the lower ram voltage/clock but slightly tighter timing on the GTO (which means at 650/800, the GTO may be SLIGHTLY faster than a GTX). The GTX can o/c higher, but costs $400+. Flashing it to GTX increases the mem latency but does not alter the ram voltage, which is determined by the resistor. There are some reports that flashing it with GTX bios MAY increase the o/c potential, at the price of voiding the warranty.
