For people looking for an alternate bios, you can try HERE

Although, the text file located in the archive says its a GTX bios, everything else says its an older GTO(xxx.08). Anyone guinea pigs out there? Heh...

In for 1, going to put it in my non-SLI Ath64 box for now.

I'm waiting on the new nVidia SLI Conroe motherboards to build a real gaming rig with the E6600.

I wonder if these eVGA GTOs will still be around in a few months?

It seems every retailer is tyring to unload them, knowing their history as GTX rejects does this indicate the GTO is being production-halted and discontinued and they are liquiditating all current stocks?

1 of these is fine for a while but it would be nice to know they'll still be around for a possible SLI upgrade in 6 months time or so... If they're still around I assume the price will be even lower then as well.

Um, I doubt it. In 6months they'll either be gone or whatever is left will be places trying to capitalize on SLIers with a jacked price... but you never know...

I own both GTO (@691/1600) and GTX (@700/1800), and to be honest, I'm not even sure which one is better or faster in most of my games ie F/C, FSx, Fs2004, Oblivion to name a few.

"The GTO no doubt gets my vote for the best deal of the year."

In case anyone is still interested, I have a GTX bios that I've successfully flashed my GTO to. As long as your GTO can do 1600mhz stable (which u should test), this bios will boot up your machine as a GTX.

i will wait.
the GTX will probably cost about 250-350 when the G80 comes out. Nv is doing this to make it looks like a deal, so many more people will jump into it before the G80 is launched. Good way to get rid of old stock i would say.

if you can wait, fine. If you however, buy it today, there are 90 days for you to step up to g80 with eVGA if choose to do so.

My card couldn't do anything above 710 on GTO, flashed runs fine in FEAR at 800. So the looser timings of the GTX bios help in getting the card up to 800. I am waiting on the vmods though.

IMHO, only if you want the 512 meg and/or bigger stock cooler. You can always vMod your current card to 1.4v on the core and get GTX performance.

Edit: typo

Just to let you guys know, this is an outstanding card. I upgraded from a 9600XT (yah, so I'm "alittle" late...) and the performance is amazing. I picked mine up from newegg for about 252$ or so and thought that it was a great deal. Why am I not finicking over the price difference ? Mine does 710/830 with ease (haven't tested any higher). w00t.

mine was essentially from a 9200 . Was using a free 6200TC that I got and had an x850Xt on the way but then this popped up.

When did you buy it? I bought mine at 12:08am, and it's still showing as being at step 1

I still have yet to see any verification of this at all.
eVGA also denied that this was the case and stated that these were blank GTX boards that were assembled as GTOs. Not just GTX's lying around. Also, seems to me that if they WERE GTX boards that couldn't run stock speeds, we'd see evidence of a replaced resistor for the lower memory voltages. But we don't.
We also have yet to see any indication of this in member experiences. 1.1ns ram is made to run much higher than 1600mhz, and we see most members reaching GTX speeds despite lower voltage and tighter timings.
Preliminary results are that most members who cannot reach GTX speeds have a newer BIOS version. Several members have flashed to the older version and had their overclocking problems solved.
I suppose time will only tell. But what it has told so far is that these are not defective GTX boards.

They dont necessarily have to be 'defective' as in broken, like how 2MB cache Conroes aren't defective, they just have 2 of their 4MB cache disabled because during testing the chips were binned into different performance grades.

GTOs are most likely identical GTXs that were just binned one notch lower during testing. If this is true, then for as long as they manufacture GTXs there will be an equally steady stream of GTOs being released, simply as a function of the manufacturing process.

The problem is, the upgrade program is based on the price you actually pay for the first card, and you have to pay MSRP for the new card, instead of getting it on sale.

It's way better than paying for the new card's cost. What else can you ask for? More discount from eVGA? It is not a volumed e-retailer like N/E in order to give you that discount.
