With this rebate processing center you can also have the rebate deposited into you paypal account within 8-10 days for 10% of its value IIRC. Might be worth it for some to get your rebate faster. I'd staple my UPC to the rebate form as I've had this company "lose" a UPC code I've sent to them.

So how do people rate this deal? I'm looking to build a new rig and I was specifically thinking some variation of a EVGA 260. Will there be something better on BF or is this likely as good as it's going to get for something this specific?

you never know... but this card and a game for that price is pretty compelling... the rebate is until the ned of the month, so technically you can wait...

Read the whole slickdeals thread about this deal. Since the egg pulled the rebate from the site, it's possible they won't honor it when you try applying. Having said that I pulled the trigger to SLI this bad boy. Worst case scenario I should be able to sell off Farcry to even out the difference if the rebate gets denied. Also, don't forget to use your Live search for a few more bucks in cashback. I did and had to resubmit my order. I'm a cheap bastard like that .

Just make sure to read the fine print, some rebate forms explicitly say not to staple anything. I use 2 pieces of scotch tape (make sure not to tape bar codes) and haven't had any problems.

Word is the vanilla GTX 260s with 192 SP have gone EOL, so once these go at this price they will most likely be gone forever. The upside to waiting is the rumored influx of 55nm parts for GTX 260 216SP and GTX 280 parts, which could mean higher OC'ability, lower power consumption, and less heat. Downside is the 216SP part is going to cost $80 to 100 more. As for BF sales, I've found e-tail promotions to be pretty weak overall, so I wouldn't hold your breath for something better. Very compelling deal for sure, especially if you don't already own FC2.

The price on the 260's does seem to be falling. I think I will wait until it hits the $140-150 range before jumping onboard since I do have an 8800GTS G92 and am only running 1680x1050.

Actually worldwiderebates is the company that I've done the staple thing with. They "lost" one of my submissions and in the meantime I bought another vid. card that had a rebate through them. On the second one I stapled the UPC to the form and got the rebate without a problem. However your point is taken and seems to be a better suggestion than mine was . I'll start taping the UPC onto the forms from now on.

Great deal for a great card. The 216 doesn't improve much and this completely wipes out any reason to get a 9800gtx or 4850 unless its a ~130 AR deal.

I was going to pull the trigger on it, but it looks like they pulled Farcry 2 off the deal now. Meh. I'll wait until BF.

Ok. It doesn't say it on Newegg's site where it does for some of the other 260's. I see that's right from EVGA though. Thanks!

Free 3DMark Vantage Advanced for 260 and 280 buyers from EVGA as well to sweeten the deal. If I hadn't already purchased a 4870 earlier in the year I would be all over this deal.

Seems very much alive to me. Just tested out the coupon code "VGA111810" at checkout and that still works too.

Let the troubles being for getting the rebate. Despite the date this printed on the rebate form, Worlwide Rebates shows the valid dates for this promotion as Nov 1st - Nov 4th. You have to register for the rebate online and if your rebate is outside of these dates then you can not register unless you purposely put down the wrong date (which will probably get you nowhwere).

Here is an email that I sent off to Newegg:

My original message:
When I purchased this item there was a $40 mail in rebate advertised. Once I received the vide card I went to the website to ge the rebate and it appears that the form does not exist. Can you please either locate the rebate form for me or credit me back $40. Thanks J

Their reply:

Dear James,

Thank you for contacting Newegg.

We sincerely apologize for your inconvenience. According to our Rebate Center , there is only one rebate form available for the item # 14-130-370 now, the amount of which is $40 mail-in-rebate. Please kindly note that the valid order date frame for the rebate is between 10/01/2008 and 10/31/2008, which is not eligible for your order that is placed on 11/20/2008. You can check this information on the following link:

http://images10.newegg.com/Upl...0Oct1Oct3108jh28us.pdf

We deeply apologize for this unfavorable situation. Please kindly note that the rebates are savings offered directly through the product manufacturer. In order to receive the rebate savings, you must have their product shipped and invoiced between the advertised dates. Newegg just posts the rebate information on our site for customers' convenience. However, since you are our valued customer, I will go ahead and make a one time exception for you and issue you a discount of $10 towards your next new order as a courtesy. Please reply to this email with your new order number once the package with the new order has been delivered so that I can apply the available discount.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please visit our FAQs page. If you still need assistance, please feel free to email me directly and I will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,
Name Withheld

My reply back to them

Thanks for the offer on crediting back $10 but please hold on before doing that because I can now offer additional information. After I sent the original email I was looking around the web and found a link to the rebate on your site and the PDF file is still there. See this link: http://images10.newegg.com/Upl...Nov01Nov3008ez21us.pdf The offer shows as being valid for the whole month of November.

The only obstacle to taking advantage of this offer is that the Worlwide Rebates website says that the offer is only good from Nov 1 - Nov. 4. You can go to their website here: http://www.worldwiderebates.com/customer/default.aspx and then over on the left hand side enter in the promotion code which is ega-6163

It's impossible to register for the rebate if your purchase date is outside of Nov 1 - Nov 4th.

Someone at Newegg needs to either credit me $40 for the rebate or contact Worldwide Rebates and straighten out the issue with valid dates for the rebate.

Thanks

I've also sent an email off to the head of marketing at eVGA and their person who handles rebate issues. I had sent them an email about a month ago requesting that they stop using Worldwide Rebates due to them being a very shady company in my opinion (can't talk to a person if you call their 800 number, receive blank replies when I contact them via email, they lose 2 out of 3 rebates that were mailed to them).

I got in on this too and have had the same problem. According to the guys in the original Slickdeals thread Newegg says the rebate should be valid and advised those that contacted them to just go ahead and send in the rebates while keeping copies of everything just in case, of course.
