EVGA Geforce GTX 580 BO edition, downclocking with 2 monitors?

So I just recently built this system for a friend, and it has only 1 problem I am trying to resolve; which I *believe* is a monitor issue, but I noticed something interesting while diagnosing the monitor issue.

This 580 I have is properly downclocking at the desktop, even with two monitors...

I thought that this was not possible from all the information I had seen...

I have the brand new drivers; can anyone else check and see if these drivers resolved the issue with the card not downclocking with 2 monitors?

*for the record my 9800GTX also never had this issue, it always down-clocked even with 2 monitors*

*sort of a seperate topic, but in regards to the monitor issues I am seeing:

it's 2 samsung 2333T (new); and sometimes they will just randomly go into power saving mode and refuse to wake up, even a reboot and pulling the power won't work, the only way I have gotten them to work again is by switching between DVI and VGA cable, which only works sometimes, and switching to a totally different monitor and then switching back..

Research found that apparently samsungs have had issues like this before with the PCB responsible for controlling power saving modes, refresh rate, etc being buggy...I dont think its a random defect because both monitors do it, if it is a defect it may be with the whole batch.

Anyways I will likely be advising my friend that we should send these monitors back, and replace them with a similar from a different brand, as neither him, or myself have the time to sit and figure out why these monitors are doing this.

From what I understand, the cards will downclock with 2 monitors, but it won't be as much as it would with only 1 monitor. Also, I believe this also occurs only when the monitors are different resolution. I could be totally wrong, but this is what I read a while back...

both are running 1920x1080, so that could be why it is actually downclocking, if your theory is correct.

it is clocking all the way down, 51Mhz Core, temps reports ~37C with fan speed@ 40% (customer profile)

I have not OCED the card any more then it's pre-OC (SC speed on the BO edition)

I am certainly not complaining, but if I stumbled across a way to fix this for people...I would like to figure out what I unknowingly did so others can benefit as well.

If the monitors are running the same resolution and refresh rate they will down clock completely.
So your correct above.

Alright that explains it then; weird that out of all the posts I have seen NO ONE mentioned that they where running different resolutions.

Seems like a pretty easy fix...just get matching monitors?

In my case, my monitor is 16:10 and my TV is 16:9 (obviously). Although I have been meaning to try out the Windows+P to see if disabling the second monitor will make my card downclock completely... But its winter here so it keeps my room warm .

Edit - Just tried disabling my TV (which is ironically my display 1, so I have to choose "Projector only" in windows for my main monitor only), and it has downclocked to 51MHz. Looks like people could use this if they have Windows 7 and don't always use the second display (I only use the TV for movies and such, it is wall-mounted away from my computer anyways).

Is there anyway to get around this? I have a receiver hooked to my comp via HDMI and it's acting like a 2nd display, so my GTX 580 is running full clocks at all times, even though the receiver isn't really a 2nd display........

Do you have both your displays on all the time? If you are running Windows 7 and don't need both displays all the time, hit Windows key+p and you can switch between the different display modes, including computer only and "projector" only.

I only have the one display lol, when you hook a receiver up to Win7 via HDMI, it thinks the receiver is a 2nd display, when it really isn't.
