Great deal, just got it in my email. It isn't live yet, but says check back on 7/30.

So with that, do I upgrade my 5770 to two 460's? At that price, it's hard to think that SLI would not be a good idea

I was under the impression that the 460 is quite better than my current 5770. Was also going on what I've read that SLI is a tad better than Xfire as far as support goes.

you going through the trouble of pawning your first 5770 to get two 460's wouldnt really be worth it for the marginal performance gain you would get with SLI over simply adding a second 5770 for CF.

but by all means, go for it if you have your heart set on it.

What is the power consumption on those? I have a 8800GT that just died and looking for a replacement. I think the 460 is a bit overkill but....I also need a card that has 1 power connector only. Very tempting on the price though. I wonder how much more power these use over an 8800GT.

Well, going by the SLI numbers for both, it looks like a 8800GT pulls 110W and the GTX 460 180W.

So I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is the perfect buy right now to upgrade one of my pcs that is running an 8800GT?

Seems I'm not the only one wondering.

I don't think it's an issue with my corsair 520w but I guess I should look into that as well
You will have no problem running a gtx460. Your power supply can do 480w on the 12v rail (40 amps). Most 460s ask for a 12v rail of 24 amps (288w on the 12v rail.) You will need though two 6 pin power sources or adapters making molex into 6 pin. If I remember the corsair 520w has 3 pcie 6 pin cords so you should be fine.

I was more referring to the the 300 to 350w power supplies some OEMs such as Dell, Hp, Acer, etc use.

Funny how we're all talking about this deal and we don't even know what they're selling yet!

Regardless, any GTX460 is a nice upgrade from an 8800gt - about 75-100% depending on the model, sometimes a lot more when the 512MB 8800gt runs out of memory. I upgraded from an 8800gt to the GTX460 768MB model and it was a great upgrade.

And to answer everyone's question, no this isn't a good upgrade from an 8800gt. It's a waste of money, slower than a 5770: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3909/nvidias-geforce-gts-450-pushing-fermi-in-to-the-mainstream/9. In some games, it's barely 20% faster than a 8800gt.

It's not even a very good deal for a GTS450, as other cards have been available for less for a long time: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=1&srchInDesc=

OP - what happened? Did you mean to link to something else? If you want to goof around with dual GPUs, go ahead and buy yourself this open box 5770 for $51FS at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121363R. Now that's a good deal.

I don't blame the OP; I got the e-mail, too and it CLEARLY said EVGA 460. Some serious bait & switch going on here.

For shame, EVGA....for shame.

i can vouch for this too...the OP is not to blame. that being said, the OP should edit the title of the thread to specify the 450 now that we know about the bait and switch...otherwise lots of folks are going to see this thread, get real excited, and then get let down.
