I have an EVGA GTX 680, and I'm pretty annoyed because every time I play Battlefield 3 or Medal of Honor Warfighter the game will "FREEZE CRASH" It will FREEZE and stop working, forcing me to close the game using task manager. Now the thing that caught my attention was that the Temp under heavy load gets to 78 Celsius it might even have gotten to 80! I have a feeling that this is the cause of the crashes and wanted to see what you guys thoughts were on this?
I'm using the latest nvidia drivers, there isn't another update for now.
Please help me!
(Pleaes Note: My level of knowledge is noob, that's why I ask here)

The temp is definitely not the cause of these crashes.Do you have any osd software running?

I'm using the EVGA Precision tool while in game, so it displays my temps on the upper right hand corner.
I just bump up the fan speed to 55%, trying that out for now. So frustrated!
I do know one thing, it is my System crashing not the games fault.

Some games are very picky with some osd tools. Can you close that and try to recreate it?

Thank you for the suggestion but In fact this has being happening for almost 2 weeks and at the time I didn't have any osd tools open or running. Today is the first time that I actually have any osd running, so that is not the cause.

OMG!!!! AHHHHHH
Not to sound childish but this S*** is so annoying! Every match of MOH or BF3 I play the Game Freezes! It did it again! this time the Temps were at 73 C so.....I'm starting to rule out GPU issues.... but what could it be!?

run memtest, update motherboard BIOS,do a prime95 12 hour run and check for stability on the CPU/memory

When you say crash, is the game/s crashing to the desktop or is the whole system crashing as in shutting down/going off? Also are experiencing any lockups browsing the web or light tasking?

Regarding your temps on the GPU, it is not that.

After doing some research on the web regarding my "Freezing Issue" i have determined that the issue is not caused by faulty hardware or software component on my computer but by EA Battlelog. It seems to be a bug that they haven't fixed since last year! And no the Computer is not crashing in terms of shutting:\ down but while I'm in game the game will FREEZE and stop working forcing me to use task manager to end the application forcefully.

Try launching the game from a different web browser. Currently I can't launch BF3 from Google Chrome without BF3 freezing and I've done everything to try and fix it. I could play for a little bit then I'd a crash to desktop.

All I had to do was launch the game from Firefox and it started working properly again.

EA wonders why people hate their web based server browser, truth is it sux and so does punk buster.

Yes I agree... I love both games MOHWF and BF3 but the buggs are just to many. However this issue has being resolved with a Patch that was released yesterday night. I was finally able to play for an hour with no problems!

The very fact that the throttle is at 70C is a very obvious indicator that they are not intended to go beyond that temperature.

They may last a few years of gaming at 70-75C but they will definitely die much sooner than what they were supposed to last. And in case you have a high oc, there is a decent chance that something could go wrong even in a few months!

You need to always check the normal temperature range of a hardware device without mods/oc. If you wish to oc, ideally you should still stay close to that range with proper cooling. Else chances are that you will have problems sooner than the ideal case.

And it is damn obvious if Nvidia has a 70C throttle limit then they don't want it to go much beyond it. For a few months or a year or two you may get past it with just reduced performance. But issues like the above will only get common.

This is something that the company doesn't need to spell out loud, it is common sense. Sure, you could play at 80C. But not forever.

Older gen cards were meant to run at 80-90C because that was their temperature out of the box. These cards rarely go beyond 60C so having a 70C buffer is a good enough margin to ask you to cool it and back off. If you can't understand a subtle warning then I guess be prepared to for changing cards mid cycle once in a while, assuming that most cards will still make it for at least a year with such torture.

What you said is something like this:

Slapping a student for misbehavior doesn't do anything to him.

Of course it does, he is slapped to tell him that what he did was wrong and should not be repeated.

Just because he didn't die from the slap doesn't mean that what he did is being encouraged or supported.

And no offense but this is just an example, I am not pro slapping students.

Yea I don't plan on OC until I have proper cooling.....and I agree at high temps the card won't last that long, like you say is common sense and besides what should I do? Not Play any GPU intensive games? but anyway I should be fine since my card is registered and it has a 3 year replacement. I know, I Know.....They are picky about what they replace and what applies in their warranty but is a lot better than nothing. Besides who would have thought that Microsoft would send me a replacement copy of Windows 7 Ultimate "FREE Of Charge" just to replace the counterfeit I had accidentally bought? Same applies here, I don't have the worlds faith that if anything goes wrong with my GPU that I will be covered by EVGA but my chances are better than none.

What are you talking about? I'm sure you have an excellent explanation, please let us hear it

if you didnt OC your card and it crashes in multiple games that means that theres something wrong with it. people in the evga forums have had the same thing happen to them... might want to get that rmad

edit - i only crash in bf3, not a driver crash but a system crash, when i OC my card slightly past its limits and the same goes with other games
