Holy one hot smoking deal!
I would have been all over it if I did not pull trigger on the flagship 480 at its sibling site or the Egg.
460 SLI would have beaten a single 480 anyday.

Back in stock. Ordered 1.

Don't know if I should have. I am using a GTS 250, but it plays Starcraft II at 1080p with most settings at highest locked at 30 FPS perfectly, and that is all I am really interested in playing at the moment. Its fine for the other games too. But hard to resist a GTX 460 at this price and I have almost had my current card for a year.

damn... with jc2 for $145 this is even a couple $$$ better than the td deal i got...

these cards rock... i have one single card and one sli rig with them, and they are very fast, very quiet and very cool... the kids say that they 'notice' a slight stutter in a couple games (that might not be there with the 1gb one), but one of these things is seat of the pants faster than sli'd 9800's or 4850's, or a 4890...

mine all oc to 830/2100...

and these things like having cpu behind them... they are noticeably faster with a 930@4ghz than a 9550@4ghz...

If you have games that are "noticeably faster with a 930" then that's because the games are cpu limited, not gpu. those same games would also be noticeably faster with a 4890, gtx 260, gts 250, 4850, or any other video card that was being used in a cpu-limited scenario.

looking forward to seeing how high I can OC it and still be 24/7 stable in seti with it.

Mine has already shipped, have tracking # and everything.

not the case in same tests with anything below a 4890 (and less noticeable with a 4890)... the 460 looks like it scales better...

Mine just shipped. I got separate invoices and tracking numbers for the SC2 trial and card for some reason. I received the SC2 trial info a couple hours earlier.

gpus don't "scale" with cpu power. a game is either cpu or gpu limited. your settings are simply putting the breakeven point around 4890 level performance. crank up your quality settings even more and/or play more demanding games and in most cases you'll be gpu bound.

read this article . bfg10k is one of our video moderators here at AT as well, he can explain it much more eloquently than I can.

@pieisawesome. I got them separate, too. no idea why, not that it really matters to me. $146 shipped with no rebate hassles is great imho. and I haven't played sc2 yet, so I'll actually get some usage out of the free trial.

Why must these deals always show up when I'm broke? Guess I'll stick with the 4850 for awhile longer yet. Thanks anyway OP

Why must these deals always show up right after i purchased something similar (460 1GB) for much more? Although it is shown as OOS at $199, so maybe i did not fare too poorly ($220 for the 1GB version).

I haven't seen 1gb for less than $200, and typically it's closer to the msrp of $229. I looked at anandtech bench results for the 768mb card, it's faster than a gtx 275 but gets smoked by gtx 285 because the benches are done at high res with high AA/AF levels. This card is good for up to 1680x1050 (my resolution), but for anything above that the 1gb gtx 460 or 5850/gtx 470 level performance is preferable.

OOS again. I'm tempted to get this..one thing I find odd is, why are they charging 5.99 for a trial key for SC2? Curious how that figures into their budget for selling the card cheaper in a combo...

overall about a 15% boost and more like a sidegrade in some games. heck in Just Cause 2 the gtx460 768mb is slower than the gtx260 according to techreport. I think you just got too excited about the good price but will really accomplish little to nothing when all said and done.

Both of mine shipped, yay. I'm currently on a GT240 so there's no way this isn't an upgrade

It keeps going in and out of stock -- the overclocked version was just in stock for about 5 minutes as well. I think I will probably pull the trigger. Close enough to 5850 performance for me, I think.

naw, my gtx 260 - 216 is artifacting slightly and is out of warranty, plus I run DC on it and, you know, I need to keep up with joneses!

also, I obviously can't oc the gtx 260 at all, whereas I anticipate getting another 10-15% performance boost from overclocking this new card.

the only reason this would be slower than the gtx 260 in any game would be ram limitation issues at higher res, which I am unlikely to see at my 1680x1050 resolution. In fact, it beats a gtx 275 9-3 with a couple of ties according to anandtech bench and smokes it in all power/thermal/noise categories. I would say that I'll be saving money on power if I wasn't just going to dump the gtx 260 into another rig...

edit: of course, I only run my i7 920 at 3.84 right now until summer lets up. do you think that will be enough cpu for 1680x1050, or should I upgrade to gulftown?

what games do you play? at 1920x1200 you might want a bit more power than this when you upgrade. I'd wait for a deal on at least a gtx 460 1gb and preferably a 5850/gtx 470.

ha! just saw your note. you're lucky you missed out imho. keep your eyes peeled, amd is supposed to drop prices across the board in the next month or two. my guess is you'll see 5850 soon for $200 or less.

Well unfortunately, looks like the deal is dead so it is a moot argument for me.

I'll probably jump on a sub $200 5850.

that's what I'm saying, you're better off missing this deal, anyway. You'll just be stuck upgrading and/or dropping resolutions soon if you get this, while signifcant price jumps and even the "next big thing" are literally right around the corner. In fact, 6770 looks to be quite similar to 5850 and should end up being quite a bit cheaper as well. If you can hold out until BF and/or keep checking out hot deals you'll see something sweet on a card that works for you.
