SO I had a 8800GTS 320mb videocard which I had to RMA, I got an Advance RMA and the card they sent me seemed to be working untill it started to artifact. I though perhaps some dust in the PCI-e lane and I look placed my palm on the top metal part of the card and it gives me a second degree burn and it stings like hell. Im pissed and astonished about what happened and I see that the fan isnt working.... great RMA! Im calling EVGA right away for this garbage they sent me which burned me... waiting for them to pick up gah.

Things like that happen. EVGA is a good company though, they should take card of you. First, are you sure the card's fan is plugged in and wasen't accidentally stopped? Small fans on those video cards sometimes get stopped and don't spin back up.

I do know that the small fans slow down but It was under Oblivion max outdoors and it was seriously hot, and like after I got burnt it felt like an oven venting heat. I talked to the representative and hes like I have to send the orginal card back and than once I do that they well send me anothe RMA. He said I could talk to the manager which I will do cause after this burn I deserve a videocard upgrade... or something

EVGA did this to me with the 7900GT they send me for step up.

They sent me a new one and I got that sucker to do 745/1920 until it died a horrible, horrible death.

Isn't that metal rod thing on the bottom some sort of heat pipe? If so I could understand the burn, most cards run pretty hot.

Had the fan been working it likely wouldn't have been hot enough to do that.

That would be using too much common sense man. Take your logic and go somewhere else.

I can imagine you calling into eVGA customer service and overstressing that horrendous burn you got from touching a hot heat sink while the card was running.

Yes... its a blister from the heat

Some parts of videocards get super hot, even with fans working properly. I am sure if you touch the MOSFET heatsink on an X1900, you can easily burn yourself if you don't have a fan blowing over it.

The Exhaust port at the very very back of the card where the video signals out put was scalding hot as well.

whats up with all the negative feedback?, a lot of you guys jump to conclusions that it was something minor, the card itself all over was extremely hot! I have been having a terrible month with severe depression, a break up, a videocard that breaks which gives me the only comfort to get away from life.

Really though, EVGA has the best CS I've ever seen. You'll get a new one quickly and it'll do fine.

I think your chances of getting a better card through an RMA have increased due to your troubles.

Yeah I'm not sure why you're taking so much flak for this. It's a video card not a clothing iron or space heater, you don't expect touchable parts to get *that* hot. I certainly wouldn't expect exposed parts of the heatsink or heatpipe to get hot enough to burn you. And just because the GPU is running at 90°C or whatever doesn't mean the heatsink is too. Otherwise UL, CE and certification powers that be would probably require a warning sticker of some sort. Let us know how things work out.

good luck to you and I agree the exposed parts of the card should not be that hot hope you get a sweet upgrade out of it.
