EVGA step-up question

I am interested in EVGA's Step-up service
I read its terms and conditions
I wonder if I need to do the step-up in three months since the date of purchased.
and, can I decide which card I wanna upgrade to?
e.g: if I buy a 8800gts, can I ship the card back to EVGA and tell them I want a 9800gtx?

as longs as you have the invoice and you register the card you should be ok

Yes, it is three months from the date of purchase. You WILL need the invoice. You pay the difference between the price you paid for your board and the MSRP of the board you want to step up to, plus shipping. They only offer the option to step up to the vanilla versions of the boards. No factory overclocked boards.

For example, if you pay $250 for a 8800GTS and the MSRP of the 9800GTX is $350, it will cost you $100, plus shipping to step up.

You also have to ship back the board with ALL the original packing, cables, software, and manuals. So if you intend to do this, make sure you keep everything. If you are missing items, they will charge you for them.

Unless they changed their policy recently, it's fine to step up to a OC'd version of the card. My previous step up was from a 7800GT to a 7900GT. I chose the middle card configuration, but had to option of picking any of them. As a random bonus I was sent the card in the top OC configuration.

I stepped from dual 7800GTXes to dual 7800GTX KOs in the past, but I think they did change that since then.
