EVGA support - sending LMGTFY links. =\

Maybe you should have just kept it on the EVGA forums?

I find their tolerance of people blowing up over simple things commendable.

From a quick look at that thread and some googling around it appears they are likely volunteers. As in they don't get paid by EVGA, and don't represent EVGA.

In short, who cares? Coming here to whine about it is far worse IMO.

Yeah, sending a lmgtfy link is meant to be insulting no matter how you slice it. Basically telling the consumer how stupid he/she was for not thinking of that themselves. That afterburner mod is probably the exception. EVGA are usually completely awesome with customer support.

EDIT: I do like Viper GTS's take on it.

I agree with the above. You are taking out anger/frustration on a mod of a forum.
If you fired off a email, to the few people that actually work at EVGA, even few, they would have answered or helped you. I see, the same few fellows who make the videos respond on newegg with their email addies to make customers happy/ be helpful/answer questions.

Talk about lame, unprofessional, and inexcusable behavior.

1. Guy wants a thermal pad
2. Guy gets told he needs a 3mm one
3. Guy claims he cant't find any for sale
4. Guy gets shown that googling "3.0mm thermal pad" gives exactly what he is looking for

.... cool story bro

Talk about blowing things out of proportion!

One more thing:

If you have the thousands to spend on a hobby like this (which in the grand scheme of things is pretty useless) you would do well to learn that being nice will get you a lot further than throwing your "$1000 worth of EVGA" weight around. You'd be amazed at what an understanding and easy-going attitude will get you.

This kind of righteous indignation needs to be saved for real problems, of which you likely have few.

If you look, EVGA themselves did chime in and report the thickness, which I already knew. So I clarified and didn't get a response back from evga official, instead got a lmgtfy link. insulting, period.

I did fire off an email, and heard nothing back, so I posted on the forums since there are several evga employees that answer questions and help people take care of things like this on the forums. evga brags specifically about this support.

Then you looked at the results, saw that one was alibaba and would be coming from China with absurd shipping prices, and the other was an unreputable ebay seller.

COOL STORY BRO.

If you guys can't understand that this thread was posted here so you would know what you're getting into if you go to evga's forums for help... Well, maybe you should use your head.

Actually I understand your problem, and why you are frustrated.

In many hobbies, be it electronics, automotive, the need for a specialized screw/ gasket that costs little can cause huge hurdles to find. With cars, electronic projects, you might need a certain screw of a size, thread design, length, type that is just not found in a magic bin at home depot. Same goes for gaskets /shims/ thermal pads !
When you get your answer and fix your card, be sure to help the community with how you did it.
Many 5 series AMD cards had thermal pad burns, so they needed to be replaced. Any time a card is taken apart, ideally those pads are also changed. They go through a initial squish which can't be reused ideally.
Feel your pain, but learn from this ?

WTH?? Dude, alibaba was only 1 (ONE) WUN! of a hundred google results. The 5th link down (for me) was a place to buy. All it would have taken was an addition 8/10ths of a second to peruse the other results. You really flew off the handle here and although I do not agree with how that moderator handled answering your question, he did at the very least point you in the proper direction. But get over yourself and go buy your thermal pads. As another already stated here, the mods are most likely volunteers and don't even work for eVGA. Just settle down now. You will accomplish absolutely nothing this way.

I'd have banned you on my forums. I think they were quite patient in the face of a ridiculous user.

I see nothing wrong with that lmgtfy link... either in professionalism or in helpfulness.

Kind of makes me want to by EVGA EVEN MORE, in the same vein that pokerstars customer support always made me chuckle and encouraged me to play there vs elsewhere.

Douches ? Hey ? That's strange. They seem like a bunch of enthusiastic hardware guys. Are nerdy campaigns and excitement around hardware worthy of being a douche?

Again, maybe it comes across as a harsh term, and I'm not the best at explaining the joke, but it's honestly not intended as a legitimate dig against them. They have some great stuff and I'm sure I'll pick up an EVGA card at some point.

It's kind of like when I see a guy drive by in a Lamborghini, look at my friend, and say "what a jerk". I don't honestly think the guy is a jerk, I'm just admiring his hot as hell car and wishing I had one of my own.

Guess it's just stupid college-kid humor. Didn't mean to offend.

You should try crying more, you might find the thermal pads in that pool of tears.

The EVGA mod was right. All you had to do was open up Google and make a quick search. It's not that hard, but you decided to whine and write a multi-paragraph response even after he tried pointing you in the right direction.

In spite of your whiney attitude, keysplayr gave you a good link for the thermal pad. Go buy it and spend a few days working out your frustration on the FPS of your choice. Oh, and heed the advice of others from this thread: you get more bees with honey than with vinegar.

The thing is, who the hell cares? Nobody, except for OP.
