How do these brands compare? I am currently RMAing a eVGA 7900 GT CO Superclocked. I was wondering if I should give that card another chance, or if I should try another brand.

This was my first eVGA card, and obviously the experience hasn't been a good one. The tech support at eVGA, Mwave.com, and Dell all agree that my card is probably defective. I was thinking about trying another brand. What do you think?

Also, since this situation has really disappointed me, my wife says I should upgrade to a 7900 GTX. She thinks that will make me feel better. She's right, but is it worth the extra money?

If she says to upgrade, upgrade. Chances are in the future she won't be willing to let you, so do it while you can.

I wish my girlfriend told me to upgrade. She bought one of my 7800GTs for me, great right? well yeah, but, she doesnt understand that technology moves forward and everytime I even speak of upgrading video cards she throws a fit. "I just bought that for you like 5 months ago and you're already replacing it!?"...

Okay, guys I realize my wife is being pretty cool at the moment. But, what about my original question? How do these brands compare?

The evga 7900GTX superclocked have run great so far on the beta 84.20 driver. I have them in SLI but let me tell you, their heatsinks are huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. The two cards fill up every slot on my board except the bottom pci slot. I have watercooling on tap next week for them. Here is an air cooled 9205 SLI score in 3d mark 06. My wildest hope is 10,000 in 3d Mark 06 watercooled and COD2 plays sweetly at 1920x1200 with these cards. You will not be disappointed.

EVGA, XFX, BFG, LeadTek...many will have an opinion on the card they own being better. Honestly, just take your pick and you should be fine with any of these. The warranties on these cards are slightly different however:

EVGA and BFG...lifetime
XFX...double lifetime, meaning whoever you sell the card to will have the warranty guarantee
Leadtek...1 year I think, but hardly anyone ever RMA's a leadtek card and they're great cards too

Performance wise, cards that are clocked the same will have like maybe a 1-5 fps variation in games, not really noticeable. Overclocking is a different story, some overclock better than others, just got to get lucky I think. EVGA does have that step up program but at this point it would be worthless since the next batch of GPUs wont be out for months and I think the step up is only for up to 90 days after you bought the card. I have an XFX and LeadTek 7800 gtx in SLi and I like both cards equally

its all the same, pretty much comes down to features and price.

If you dont care about VIVO, overclocking, or fast RMA service, just go with cheap.

XFX overclocked version is the most powerfull, it even reaches 7800GTX 512 speeds and performance

None of them manufacture their cards as they are all built in China. Go with the company that has warranty you like best.

I've used eVGA and BFG recently. BFG's tech support was worthless for me and the card was flakey from the get go. My eVGA has worked fine so I haven't had to use their tech support. But, everyones experiences are different, I'm sure there's people out there who don't care for eVGA and love BFG. Good luck. And upgrade.

LOL, she's totally right though. What other $300+ item in your house do you replace every 6 months?

I have the same card and im struggling for a reason to tell the wife i need to upgrade.

btw my evga has been rock solid. I registered on their website for the free game as well, quake4. Had nothing but good experiences with them.

All the cards are reference designs, prob mafg at the same plant. XFX, BFG are subpar as far as warranty and cust svce is concerned so why bother with them? Also evga is as cheap and offer the step up program.

You have to read the fine print with warranties. For example, the EVGA AGP 6800gs OC doesn't have a lifetime warranty, only a 1+1 year warranty. That's what made me buy the BFG version. But I'm pretty sure EVGA covers all their new cards with a lifetime warranty.

You have a good, good woman there. Hold on to her dearly.

Apparently half the new BFG cards have loose capacitors on them that fall off before you even get the thing out of the box. I'm happy so far with my XFX card.

I haven't had any real problems with my BFG 7800 GT OC. I've had it going on 3 months now & it runs fine. The drivers work great & it worked very nicely right out of the box. I know Evga cards are much more popular on AT, but BFG also makes great cards!

Check out the reviews on NewEgg for the BFG 7800 GT(X) cards. Most of the reviews are positive.

I can't speak for Evga or XFX personally since I haven't owned either of their cards.

I say get a pair of 7900GTs, keep the girlfriend and the money you saved, rent a hotel somewhere nice for the weekend, and pack the Trojans.

Have fun!

EVGA all the way, because

step-up program
the warranty covers overclocking
warranty covers replacement of stock HSF

Simple: you upgrade and don't tell her about it.

"Yeah the card is still working great honey! I love it - thank you so much!"

Yeah, that's by far the easiest method.
