ok got home and internet wasnt working so im like ok restart modem and router... still dosent work...so i unplug them for ten seconds then plug them back in still nothing...called customer serveice and like they told me to do what i already did and im like ok still not working then she tells me its my wireless router and im like "No that is working correctly and all of the wired connections arnt working either." so now im forced to *borrow* my neibors wireless untill i can make a trip to their offices and make them give me a new one... has any one else had problems with Motorolla Modems?

While I don't recommend "borrowing" anybody's internet service without their permission even if they are stupid enough to leave it out there for all to grab, I would suggest Linksys cable modems over Motorolla. I have had my Linksys for at least 4 years now at home and it still just keeps on working.

Sometimes you just have to be really assertive, damn near pushy, when dealing with first-level tech support representatives at your ISP. Oftentimes they are lazy and don't want to actually investigate if there could be an issue with your service on their end.

If you can't get an internet connection with your cable modem connected directly to your PC, and you know your PC's NIC works, then your ISP needs to either fix something on their end to get you back up, or they need to come give you a new cable modem. Don't let them give you the run-around job, they usually will if you let them.

I've got a Motorola modem myself. It seems to be doing alright.... Sorry you're having trouble.

I'm running a Motorola SURFboard SB5100 and it's been great. My Comcast service has been rock-solid reliable until last week, when it went down for a few hours and was a lot slower than normal when it did come back up. I made 3 calls to tech support, and on the last 2 calls they said everything looked great on their end and that something "had" to be wrong with my computer. Turns out that there was a problem in my area after all (NOT my computer, as I knew all along). What's funny is that he was initially trying to blame my router. He started explaining pings and packet loss--it was at this point that I told him I was a semester away from getting my CCNA, and after that he no longer talked to me like I didn't know WTH I was doing. I'm sure they do have a lot of people that call in with Layer 1 problems, or people that try to blame Comcast for being slow when their computer is laden with adware and spyware, but it's really frustrating when you KNOW it has to be a problem with the service and they try to run you through the gauntlet of all the normal stuff to check on/around your PC.
